Well certainly finished 11 places above us! 1907 has good intel; obviously signing & performing aren't the same, but seems to confirm what many of us have been saying about the mistake of letting Bennett go.

Mistake! Bennett was a poor utility player who wasn't missed. He might do very well at posh but personally no thanks.

He certainly wasn’t poor. He had dips in form and some injury issues, but it’s clear that he’s a good footballer. I don’t like Evans one bit, however his assessment of Bennett indicates the potential of the player, something we saw at Dale too.

Worth noting that he rarely played centre half here, yet that appears to be where he’s excelled since leaving.

This is why football's a game of opinions. In my opinion Bennett was a very poor utility player at Dale. The fact that after Dale he dropped a division tends to support this. Evans playing him in one position might have improved his play now. In his final season at Dale though Bennett was crap.

Using that analogy Conrad Logan was/is a very poor player too then,I can't agree with that

This is why football's a game of opinions. In my opinion Bennett was a very poor utility player at Dale. The fact that after Dale he dropped a division tends to support this. Evans playing him in one position might have improved his play now. In his final season at Dale though Bennett was crap.

And the fact a team pushing for promotion to the Championship supports the alternative view! Opinions indeed.

Using that analogy Conrad Logan was/is a very poor player too then,I can't agree with that

Logan falls into the category of Davies. Too unfit whilst at Dale to play week in week out. Correct decision to release both

We didn't release Logan.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Not quite..Logan started 30 games in a season ending just over 12 months ago,it would take Davies about 4 seasons to gather that amount.

Released, moved on left club whatever, at Dale he was unfit and had lost his place in the team and therefore falls into the same category as Davies. Potential wasted whilst at Dale.

Neither Davies or Logan were "wasted potential"

Both their careers, and levels of fitness, have been blighted by injury. Logan - a potential top-class keeper - has found a level commensurate with his fitness in L2

Davies - a potential championship striker (as indeed he was whilst with Derby) has been unable to recover a level of fitness required to maintain a career in L1 - unsurprisingly, given the fitness requirements of a striker as opposed to a keeper

There's a significant difference between potential lost, and potential wasted

You might have a point with Logan but with Davies it's wasted. A fully fit Davies would have led the line effectively.

His lack of fitness whether his or the clubs fault shoes his potential has not been achieved. Therefore wasted potential.

And what, as is far more likely, it's no-one's fault? But simply a matter of him being "nursed" along and training whenever his accumulative injuries allowed?

See Hilly's comments about it being his toughest decision in releasing him - the correct decision, but if it had been Davies' fault he wasn't fit, it would most certainly not have been a tough decision

I'll leave it up to those who think otherwise, as to whether my point is wasted, or lost on them

Maybe with Davies like with Logan the club could habe done more to get him fitter. Logan is like a new man!

I leave it up to others to decide whether you're diluted...

I'm not interested in the views of people who take pleasure in pouring scorn on genuine professionals like Davies

Perhaps they're just trying to compensate for their own shortcomings, and that's my undiluted view

Well said D_A I often wonder if same critics are world beaters at their chosen profession.

This is not the time for bickering.

I'm not criticising Davies. I was saying the wasted potential was the clubs fault. I rate Davies as a player and think a fully fit Davies would have been fantastic for the club.

There's a couple of things amiss with your assumption

First, why would the club not make every possible effort to ensure Davies was as fit as he could be, given how valuable an asset he was on the pitch? It makes no sense whatsoever. People extrapolate from the Conrad Logan situation in a "2+2=5" way. Who knows how his physical circumstances might've changed after joining Mansfield? We just don't, but making the assumption "it must be the club's (Dale's) fault is flawed. There are some who think our training regime, especially pre-season, is too rigorous, leaving the players open to injury and being knackered!

But more importantly, you say you don't blame Davies, but as a professional sportsman, how could he not be culpable - if it were true that his weight issues were down to greed/laziness rather than inability to train consistently? We suddenly have experts in metabolism popping on here and sagely suggesting that going on a diet would prepare him for 90 minutes of L1 football, ffs. Of course, correct diet plays a part for sportspeople, but only when allied with the ability to train to the level of fitness required. Just cutting calories would be worse than useless in that situation, counter-productive even

So, you and others are doing Davies a disservice. There's been plenty of evidence, not least around the time of the Spurs home fixture, where Davies' desire to play and sheer joy at doing what he does better than most - converting chances - were visible to all but those who don't wish to see. It's what the guy lives for, so why wouldn't he himself do the very best he could to get himself on the pitch, secure a further contract and help himself and his family with his chosen profession? The simple answer - the only one that makes any sense whatsoever - is he and the club tried as hard as possible bur in the end, his injuries took their toll. He'd only been on the pitch a few minutes against Charlton before he broke down, but tried to conceal it and soldiered on to good effect by the corner flag

He's gone now, and Hill has expressed regret at having to let him go. People can, and will, think what they like. I know where the laziness lies, and it's not with Davies
