Back on BBC after what he did. Really? What an appalling decision and could he have given a less genuine apology?

Haha, tribal labour , really I’ve not been a member for nearly 30 years. I couldn’t care less if some low ranking son of a labour politician I’ve never heard of gets done for drugs , i also wasn’t really interested in the tory Grenfell bonfire boys . I am more concerned that there was more outrage about that than the original disaster . The partisan political points were made by our tory trust spokesman.

Who is our Tory trust spokesman?

What has the Trust got anything to do with this subject?

He might go on about abstract things like equality in his attempts at virtue signalling, he might insinuate you are a racist, he might insinuate you are immoral or a bigot. Pay no heed these people believe the rape of little children is correcting an historical imbalance. “Years of white dominance” these people are anti western to the core. We’ve had a little insight into the mind of a social justice warrior and ultimately that is why the culture war will be won by normal people who simply don’t buy into such nonsense.

I don't want to fan the flames of this more than is necessary but what he wrote was appalling. Trying to explain why and give an excuse for the exploitation of children based on historical grievances or cultural differences is frankly disgusting.

Although trying to explain, or investigating potential reasons for crime is a part of understanding them, and can help towards working to stop them happening again. Just locking people up after the event doesn't appear to be much of a deterrent to others.

Blaming colonialism or “white dominance” for the actions of a set of grubby racist child trafficking child molesters is not only a load of bollocks it’s a total step to far.

Is it me or is the world we live (and type) in now completely polarised? Everything seems to be black or white, one extreme to another, and if you disagree with someone else's opinion you are the enemy. It's all I read on Twitter etc.

That post not really related to the OP or the rest of this thread.

Acccording to one political philosopher (Francis "End of History" Fukuyama) it's due to people feeling their identity is under threat, not just their opinions; or rather, that their identity is so deeply rooted in their political opinions that both are at stake when others take issue with them. And this is due to people no longer having a firmly-rooted identity within a group due to the increasing diversity of modern cultures. People therefore feel like they're fighting a cultural battle for survival, not just having a discussion

It was interesting reading the item on footballers becoming involved in WW1 (in the thread started by Cleedale) and politicians using their sporting identities as a means of recruitment, along the lines of the Pals battalions. This was very successful in persuading young men to join up where before they may have been reluctant, since it gave them an affiliation with a group they could easily relate to

It's difficult to see how this won't become more widespread as insecurity increases

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

Your first paragraph nails it. Identity politics is a game that needs to end.
