A lot of his injury issues emerged following that crazy year where he played tournament after tournament without a break in order to reach No 1 ranking. Always a thought that to achieve his goal he might have 'overdone it' . However I expect he might believe it was a price worth paying.

I agree. Aside how obviously stupid this sounds, hitting number one spot in the world seemed to be the start of his downfall. When he looks back at his career, he might just think it was worth the premature finish to his career to say that he was the best player in the world no matter how upset he currently is. |  | | |

As others have said, Murray championed women's equal rights at a level no other man has ever done, took a female coach (Amelie Mouresmo) not to mention his Davis Cup heroics and his support and mentoring of Britain's younger players (including staying up to the wee small hours streaming games featuring British players and texting them when they come off court). Encyclopaedic knowledge of the game and made a good fist of commentating apparently, but hated sitting in a garden shed on Centre Court in a heat wave (hardly surprisingly for a big bloke always on the go). Has a hotel, coaching business, and tons of options for the future - certainly needs no sympathy.
The adulation of "mainstream" stars though is not dissimilar to the honours system in that "heros" have historically been the ones in the media, although "unsung" heros are rightly now achieving recognition. In the same vein, the story of this lady is absolutely outstanding. She hasn't got the "longevity" of a Murray, but what an achievement! Good on her!
