After a poor start Lancs have won the last 4 games...

How many go through from each league to the next stage?

2 games to go..not a competition Lancs have done well in previously

Haha I hope that you weren't on the receiving end of the famous Starkey plimsoll!

Graham is still around and living in Whitworth these days I believe although he's a crown green bowler now.

Not the slipper but did get the cane of him once. But he persevered with me when it came to learning to swim. not sure anyone else would have stuck with it like he did.

Apparently, we have just missed out on the last ever Lord's final. Anyone else remember those great occasions of the 70s and 80s?
What have they done to our once loved game?

Those were the days when Lanky always seemed to reach the final of the Gillette Cup.
The final was always on the first Saturday of September and they normally won!
Great days.
That catch that Jack Bond took to dismiss Asif Iqbal when they beat Kent in 1972 was something else!

There was a lot of criticism about the team selection for the semi-final, but I think that was a touch harsh. Given last season, this one is already shaping up to be miles better.

I usually try to get to one Old Trafford first-class game over the summer, so hopefully I land an entertaining one this year.

I went a bit later than that. The 2 semis against Glosts were superb. Clive Lloyd played in those days and is still on of my favourite cricketers of all time. Was overshadowed at times because WI had some great players but he could smack a ball as well as anybody and was a good captain too

One of my favourites from around that time was wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer.
He used to open the batting in one day matches and was the original pinch hitter long before the term had been invented.
But the hardcore of the team was of Lancashire lads who had learnt their trade in the leagues, players like Harry Pilling, David Lloyd, Peter Lever (who was from the Lancashire side of Todmorden but lived in Shawclough for quite a while), Ken Shuttleworth, Bob Ratcliffe and John Sullivan.

You've missed out the most iconic of the lot - "Flat Jack" Simmons, so-called due to his flat spin-bowling style that was a fore-runner of the current crop of spin bowlers in one day cricket; although in Jack's case, there never was much spin involved. Revolutionary (pun intended) for it's time though. Saw him strangle many an opposition in the middle overs

Could whack the ball a bit too. Or as Clive Lloyd used to say, "You just beat da ball, man"

Incidentally, does anyone remember a West Indies XI turning up at Norden Cricket Club in the mid-1990s to play a testimonial for one of their former test players who played for Norden (Gus Logie?) The game nearly didn't start due to heavy rain in the morning but by mid-afternoon, the sun came out and a huge crowd were treated to a display which included Brian Lara, Courtney Walsh and many other famous names. Clive Lloyd was there as team manager, and mingled with the crowd in the beer tent set up for the occasion

not forgeting captain Jack Bond of course and david hughes followed by Frank Hayes.

Frank Hayes was a classic example of what might have been.
A century on his test debut but never really achieved all that he could have done after that.
He was from Marple though so was considered to be posh!!
Gus Logie was an outstanding pro for Norden. Broke all sorts of records.

I think it was John Holder I saw once at Norden. Smacked about 140 off what seemed to be about 30 balls !!!

Gleeson with 5-50 and Lancs with a minute target to chase tomorrow after being so close to an innings victory today.

What's the point in the players coming back tomorrow for Lancs to chase 15 runs? I am sure that Northants could have made a quick turn around and bowled an over of filth to get the game over and done with.

Must be others on this board were there or at least remember the occasion? Born and bred in Norden (Red Lumb) but this is first I've heard of the game. Moved down here in 1980 but would have loved to see that. Thanks for the info D-Alien

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

Bit of a fight back from their tail but Anderson has just taken the ninth wicket.

I do like the look of Lancs this season.

Not forgetting Barry Wood either.

Barry was from Ossett and so a definite Yorkshireman.
He upset a lot of people when he got a record benefit and then left.
That seemed a bit unfair as a benefit is surely a reward for loyalty rather than an inducement to stay.

I agree with Fitzochris that the team seems equipped for all forms of cricket this summer.
