The fee is irrelevant. If we sell Henderson then we are accepting that we are happy to rot in League 2 for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure I'll even bother going this season if he goes tbh

I think the speculation comes from years and years of the club seeming happy to sell our best players regardless of how much it negatively impacts on the team, to the point where it's hard to think that the club would stop at nothing to keep a player at the Dale. It seems to me the most likely scenario here is that Hendo will be sold for a sum of money the club think makes good sense (given his age) but which the fans will be extremely unhappy about. It doesn't seem like we NEED to sell Hendo, unlike at other times in recent memory, but that certainly doesn't mean we WON'T. I would love to be proven wrong of course.

That's all very well

But whilst Hendo has repeatedly expressed his wish to see out his career at Dale, if he finds out there's an extra £5k per week on the table for a couple of years; and just as importantly, if his wife/partner has a view on this, are you seriously suggesting that we retain the services of a player who starts to become disaffected with his situation here? And becomes more so as the season wears on? And then Dale lose the chance of a transfer fee as Salford progress after looking elsewhere?

Some realism needed in this whole debate. I for one think Dale need to start planning right now for when Hendo is no longer playing for us. He could, for instance, pick up a long term injury early doors. All this talk of "we're doomed" if he goes is just pure negativity

I do agree that if he decides he wants to cash in towards the end of his career, we should ensure the club is properly compensated. I'm reluctant to put a figure on that, but let's just say if Salford can afford an extra £250k for two years in wages then the club should benefit by at least as much

Someone tweeted Darragh MacAnthony again a couple of days ago to see if he was after Camps, and again he replied 'No', so surely the bid that was rejected can't have been from Peterborough.

Maybe he lied?

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Potentially, and probably, as he seems to reply 'No' to most tweets

Don't want to cause any panic but I've just seen Hendo getting his knuckles tatoo'd whilst he was wearing a Brian & Michael tee shirt and he had his tracksuit bottoms tucked into his black Champion socks, with his 2 sandy coloured pitbulls , Butty and Scholesey, lay at his feet.

Poll: What is it to be then?

He’s been seen in the Bargain Booze in Higher Broughton

You are spot on with that summary D_A as you often are as was Cedar_Room earlier in the thread. There is a bit of naivety being shown to suggest that the club will stand in the way or possibly could stand in the way should Henderson accept the money on offer the clubs only role then will be to up the ante nothing more. $150000 tops to suggest One million is silly talk.

This is not the time for bickering.

If he was to be offered an "extra" 5K a week Salford would have to more than double what they allegedly pay their current top earner, I can see that going down a storm in the dressing room. I can fully expect them to be offering slightly more than us but I'd be surprised if it's silly money, I'm guessing people still think our top earners are on 2k a week mind.. That's not directly aimed at you DA as you make some very good points as usual.

You're knowledge of Salfords salary cap is better than mine but if you are correct and not merely guessing that the top earner at Salford is on less than 2.5k a week? that being the case we wont have a problem keeping Henderson will we.

The lad Adam Rooney(?) currently at Salford is reportedly on approx £4k a week when he moved down from Scotland, I think folk are severely underestimating what some of Rochdales top earners are actually on,meaning Salford would have to blow that figure right out of the water to pay an "extra" 5k a week to Hendo in addition to his current salary

Bodes well then, because it'd have to be a considerable increase (surely?) to tempt Hendo

But if Salford have ambitions above L2, they'll have to rethink their salary scale

Didn't Sheffield United - a well-supported and upwardly-mobile club -make an offer for Ian Henderson two or three years ago? IIRC a fee was agreed, and the decision left to Ian - who decided to stay with us. I appreciate circumstances change (becoming a father, Salford being an easier commute than Sheffield), but hopefully the mutual respect between player and club would mean a similar result this time.

Personally, I hope he plays at least another five years, puts the "Top Rochdale Goalscorer" record out of sight AND equals Jonah's appearances record. Then becomes Director of Football to rookie manager Jim McNulty/Matt Done/Calvin Andrew - BBM having been finally tempted away by the Republic of Ireland job.... :)

He was also strongly linked with Barnsley but showed his loyalty to us.

Perhaps good news from 'The 72' yesterday.

Salford City have entered the race with Blackpool and Swindon Town to sign former Oldham Athletic loanee Eoin Doyle from Bradford City, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
League Two side Salford City have entered the race with Blackpool and Swindon Town to sign former Oldham Athletic loanee Eoin Doyle from Bradford City.
Alan Nixon tweeted: “SALFORD. Taking keen interest in Eoin Doyle at BRADFORD. SWINDON losing a bit of hope with that one. BLACKPOOL may be looking elsewhere.”
Eoin Doyle is a proven goalscorer in League One, as he showed two seasons ago with Oldham Athletic where he scored 16 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions. To add to this, the Irishman scored 25 goals in 33 appearances for Chesterfield during the 2014/15 season.

Isn't Doyle more of a midfield player?
I should imagine that Salford will be trying to strengthen across the board.
Would be a good signing for them.

It’s been noticeable that Salford haven’t been like kids in a sweet shop in pre-season. They now have to go with the wage structures of the EFL - I know clubs like Peterborough get around this but maybe Salford won’t have it all easy in L2

No he’s definitely more of an out and out striker
