Henderson has stated multiple times he has no interest in playing for anyone else. The club have turned down multiple offers for him. Fingers crossed that continues

Have to agree with SandyDrum on this one. I can’t see Henderson dropping down a league to a club nobody had even heard of two years ago just for an increased wage for a year or two, especially when he’s been on record a few times saying he wants to finish his career here and become our highest ever scorer. Add to that he’s near enough hero-worshipped here. I just can’t see it.

However, if we do accept a bid then I agree with judd and KenBoon that it would need to be one that genuinely reflects the player’s value to us. We got it so wrong with Adshead. Henderson’s value is literally the difference between League One and League Two and all the ramifications that go with that such as competition placings, TV money, league money, crowd money, prestige, as well as fan backlash. I suspect then the player’s true worth to Rochdale has to be around £1m. Whether Salford would be willing to pay that much for a 34 year old is anybody’s guess.

They’ve turned down one enquiry from Salford already. The next bid would have to be an offer so high it wouldn’t leave anyone disgruntled for it to be accepted. Even then, the player himself would have to want to move and I don’t believe he does.

Others have already said what should happen - offer a new deal, three years if necessary.

Short of someone paying a million of which every penny can be reinvested in a replacement, there is no financial justification in selling such an important player, this is not a youngster who we can get a good fee for and sell-ons with minimal impact to the side. Dawson, Hogan, Allen were all replaceable in terms of finding players who could come in and do a more than acceptable job in their places. This doesn’t apply to Henderson at this moment in time, let’s not pretend otherwise.

The implications of losing Henderson now would be massive on so many levels. If there are bids coming in, the club must be fully aware that those implications cannot be offset by a few hundred grand in the bank account; we should not be in need of that ahead of maintaining the morale of the entire fanbase.

Dale and Hendo are a perfect fit. We accomodate his off the field stuff in a way that it would be unlikely another club would do. Its been talked about Hendo finding a home here. He is both appreciated and respected and he carries a level of importance in the dressing room that I think he thrives on.

We know Salford can pay megabucks as shown last year when they signed Rooney from Aberdeen, but they'd only look on Hendo as being a short term solution whereas we are privy to his fitness levels and would not be surprised to see himplaying a further 3 or 4 years. I think we need to reflect that by offering such a contract. A twelve month extension to his current deal, with a clause that sufficient appearances trigger another year on top.

Life without Hendo will need planning for, and we can't afford a repeat of 2011-12 where we sold O'Grady assuming a ready replacement would be easy to find.

Be rather interesting in what the actuall offer would have been..
75k ..

Lets say Salford upped it to £100k whos not to say the board jumped at that offer..
Nothing surprises me about this club..

You are joking I presume?
Salford are owned by a Billionaire.
If we do sell we need to value Henderson knowing that money is no object for them.
£1 million not a penny less.

To be fair he's one of the best wingers around

I thought he was a left back?

Seriously though, if Salford offered silly money - ie wage - then that's footie.

We're definitely relying on him too much and look like we could still do this season.

Hope one of the young strikers steps up to the mark and makes an impression but L1 really is that extra step up for youngsters and sometimes good L2 players.

It's been some time since we've polished up some rough diamonds but feels like forever since Hogan was here; know it's not.

Perhaps 'cause we have been relying on Hendo so much to come up trumps.

I expect the club would accept anything north of 250k. But I would like to think that the club would ask Henderson what he wanted to do I.e. stay, talk or go. If he wants to stay the club should just reject any offers. Given the service he has provided us I think he has earned the right to choose.
Now a if a fee of say 300k was offered I think Salford would be able to offer him 7k a week. Thanks son off you go, you have earned it.

All conjecture of course!

Im sorry but 300k is piss all in the football world today. We are talking about a player here who has scored over 100 goals for us and more or less guarantees you an injury free season and 20 goals.

It Does not matter who owns salford and how much money they have...

Henderson is 34 yrs old now and as a good goal scoring ratio at Dale but if you look at his stats hendo as not set the world alight until his twilight years at Dale.

I see it as a big gamble by Salford....

But he wont leave as he is happy at the COA.

On paper for a player of his age, 300k would be ok but it really has nothing to do with any fee. It’s the impact on the team, fans and club as a whole. That’s why even something ridiculous like a million isn’t even worth selling for unless we spent it all on a replacement ie. not going to happen.

We shouldn’t need the money, the situation is one of credibility because right now we don’t have any alternative to Henderson. Until that issue is addressed so that once again we have options, irrespective of budget, then we shouldn’t be thinking about our only real source of goals.

The signings so far have commented about BBM's plans and being excited about the season ahead. If are talismanic captain and top scorer is sold what message would that send.

200k and the offer of a pre-season match next year so we'll all turn up and not get to see Beckham. I'm sure the club have their finger on the pulse when it comes to fans' views and will do nothing to antagonise the fan base in response to this unwelcome approach. Ah. Just spotted the flaw in that.

Hendo leaving doesnt even bear thinking about. In addition to what has been said about him in this post, ie he's now found his real football home, talisman, captain, in peak fitness and of course, the fans favourite. In addition, and something he himself has alluded to previously, he has big Reg's goal scoring record in his sights which is well within his capabilities.

Peterborough have shown lower league clubs what is possible when reinvestment in players is taken seriously. They do their homework and have had too many successes down the years for it to have been a fluke. Sadly as you say Dale are never likely to do this as it takes a lot of scouting and dedication and a few risks.

Gifting Henderson away to Salford for a few quid would *almost* approach some of the recklessness buckets have done continually since the mid 90's.
It really would be that stupid.
*almost*, because nobody can be as stupid as bury.

They have had many success stories but they can afford to splash out 300k on a player - Dale can't

The last 2 big money, by our standards, signing we made from non league were Jon shaw and JOrdan Williams, both failures, that said Craig Dawson came from non league for a low fee (if any)

Peterborough deserve huge respect for this model and it’s one I greatly admire and am more than a little envious of. Oft are the times I wish we had a rich financial backer, not to go all enjoy the ride Bury but to follow Peterborough’s model of scouting and buying the best non-league talent and selling it on.

And yet, we're competing with them and have done so for quite some time. They've had the occasional foray into the Championship but rarely for long

The trouble with the type of financial backer you refer to is that once they've gone, the ability of a club (and especially a club like Dale) to cut it's cloth would be compromised by a different salary scale. For the longer term benefit of the club, i'd rather we continued with our current processes, whilst seeking improvements in small but incremental steps

Absolutely! I agree with everything you say, but it’s nice to think about occasionally when we see other clubs buying all the best lower league talent.
