The problem with playing slow pass pass football is it a) needs to go somewhere, and b) don’t do silly things when pressed. Not every team in this division are as shit as Southend and obv Peterborough are pretty decent. Blackpool were decent and controlled most of the game against us even though we probably had more of the ball.

Need a plan b because once half-decent teams figure us out (like today) it’ll be very tough since we don’t have enough up top.

3 0 dread to hear how this happened

Actually a brilliant through ball to Toney who ended up 1 on 1 with Sanchez. Rounded him easily and tapped it into an empty net

FFS

Big Jim tried to see it out for a goal kick but then tried to clip one down the line. It was intercepted & a few passes later a cross and header into the net made it 2-0. Again a suggestion that Jim could have just tried to clear it into their half. Crazy scoreline really as we are playing well but it shows that this passing game may struggle against higher quality pressing team. Not saying we should change it but we need to know when to pass it clear, and when to go for row Z

edit: just seen 442 reply which mirrors mine.

There were tweets about him this week where he had the highest (or one of the highest) pass completion stats this season. I hoped he wouldn't see them as it might give him ideas to do stuff actually talented ball-playing defenders can do, as opposed to safe passes under no pressure that have mostly served him well this season.

3-0 at half time which flatters Peterborough. However 2 areas of concern to address if we want to do well in this league ( both already alluded to in this thread)

1. We need to know when to play the possession game, and when to thump the ball out
2. For all the possession and some very good crosses and opportunities, we are missing another striker. Hendo can't be expected to score every game and needs someone to support him either with goals or with knock downs. Will Wilbraham be the answer? I hope so

The second point emphasises what the better teams have, with strikers who need 1 or 2 chances a game and know where the net is

Looking like a bad day at the office today but not enough to get too down about at this stage of the season. Against the teams in the bottom half we will be OK but not against those pushing for the play-offs.

How much did Toney cost them out of interest?

They budget way above us, they are basically a bURY with real money!

It’s something he’s always been confident doing and until he’s instructed not to when an opposition player is within X yards, it’ll carry on. Think it was the Blackpool game where he was lucky to get away with it on more than one occasion. However, not all on him as he had to deal with the ball played his way. There has to be a team-wide tactic - see the second goal.

500 k from Newcastle. If you believe their owner/chairman they turned down £4 million for him recently.

looks like somewhere around the £650K mark.

Or, another way of looking at it - around our best/highest selling plus add-ons!?

Cheers ding.

They probably have a squad worth upwards of 15 million in that case.

We are used to working on a budget that suits us though so 4 down is not a massive shock!

4-0

Another big Sanchez mistake ( Let's hope he has a seasons worth of mistakes in 1 match). Back pass to him & he mishits his kick out. However the finish by Madisson is absolutely brilliant, chipping it in from 30 yards

What we might need now is a reliable, proven League One keeper to take Sanchez out of the firing line for a while.

What are the shots/shots on target stats? Possession means squat if there's no end product.

I know that, it’s just not often you see someone dominating possession and getting hammered 5-0!

5-0 down and guess what - another mistake. Big Jim heads back to Sanches but not hard enough & Toney nips in and slots it into the bottom corner. Great finish but another horrendous mistake ( 4 out of 5 goals are what you would hope are once a season errors)

Bet Jim and Sanchez will be dreading the review of the video on Monday
