Why has Hendo not gone down when their fella pulls him back in the box?
O'Connell not happy with Sanchez efforts stopping the Cov 1st goal. Giving him an earful and a nice shove in the chest.

It was a really good game to watch and we created more in the first half than we have for weeks. Coventry were playing three at the back with two (really good) wing-backs which meant they struggled with our front three, while we had issues stopping the wing-backs. At times is was like watching a game of Fifa as passing moves would develop for both sides with the ball then given to the opposition who would then progress quickly up the pitch only to do the same.

The turning point was Pyke’s chance at 1-0 when he was put in by Henderson and instead of ensuring his first touch took him across the defender to take him out of the game he allowed him to get back to prevent a goal. He’s such a frustrating player because you can see he *could* be unstoppable at this level yet for some reason he exists on the periphery of games.

Not really known a season like this as we seem incapable of getting a win unless it’s against teams around the bottom of the league, yet those at the top are far from the quality of previous years where we’ve held our own. It requires some belief, for some reason it looks to be missing right now. Main worry? What happens if Henderson isn’t in the team, where are the goals coming from?

With every goal his value to us increases, yet it would also increase the interest of other sides. Possibly those who think that a bid in January could aid in a real bid to avoid a relegation that appeared to be a certainty yet with every win a momentum builds.

It wouldn't surprise me if Hendo's agent already has a variety of decent offers 'pending', waiting to see what we can/will/won't offer.

What (apart from Reg's record) incentive is there for him to stay. ?? The Sky pundit today, covering the Dale game, wondered 'why would you have a 40-year old on the wing' ?

Think it’s quite well known that Hendo wants to finish his career here and is happy here, future manager given his obvious intelligence would not surprise me at all.

I think it’s unfair to slag BBM off at the moment as he is stuck with a lot of players he probably will release in July, who are earning a very fair proportion of our wages, not the kids like hopper and Tavares but Done, Lillis, Andrew, Alby (who used to be a quality player but is 40) and a few others not good enough but within our affordable wage budget. If you add the wages of our out of contract players this summer it’s probably well over half of our budget, and other than Hendo, camps and the developing kids (Dooley i can’t decide on) would we really miss any of the others other than squad size?

Williams has become a worse player than we had on loan, Alby is 40, Done is past his best and not up to this level, Calvin was never up to this level, Lillis won’t play for us again, afc can keep mc. If they are that desperate, need I mention the rest.

The legacy of hill’s later year shadow is still hanging over us, probably why we are skint, overspending and the pay off. BBM is still learning but has brought in good players, he deserves to have the summer to bring in new players once our wage is reduced by around a million a year plus with released players that are not up to it!

I'm not having a go at BBM, just the way he has been lumbered with so few choices and the apparent unwillingness of the bean counters to offer any help in the forthcoming window. BBM isn't a miracle worker - he's a dedicated coach, cutting his management teeth in very difficult circumstances. It seems like he's been thrown to the wolves and then set up to fail.

As for Hendo - yes, his comments are well-publicised about finishing his career here, but things change. KH was manager here on a 5-year deal when he said that and we are now in very different circumstances. Who knows whether he can be lured away ? I really, really hope not, but I wouldn't bet against it.

In the interests of clarity, BBM offered Done and Wilbraham new deals, so we can't say he's stuck with them. Also, being fair, both had reasonable games today. Done was one of our better players at LB.

Again, being fair, Calvin was indeed an attribute at this level. His contributions in previous seasons will only be or gotten by those who are being, well, unfair.

For their second, it seemed to me, our players were like rabbits caught in headlights.
I wistfully thought why don't we see our players do that sort of thing more often. You know running at and around defenders and getting a shot off.

Regarding Henderson, just recently he said publicly how determined he was to claim the record. However, he said he was going to achieve it this year, without a doubt. I do worry that if he doesn’t achieve it by the end of the season and another club (Bolton & Hill) offer him better terms in summer, will he go or will he stay to finish the job?

Agree about his recruitment though. His signings so far have all been impressive, apart from having a bit of bad luck with the perma-injured Magloire.

Just noticed that Cov have the luxury of naming Jamie Allen on their bench!

How we could do with him back here........Sadly missed.

Allen has been injured since he signed for Coventry. Today was the first time he was named as part of the team. In fact, depth of squad is exactly what we are missing right now. Three senior forwards are injured (Godden out for the season, more or less) or else suspended. Three of our senior defenders are injured, as are three senior midfielders (incl Allen), as are two of our senior winders (one a long term injury). Never known anything like it!

Hence, today, two of our kids made their debut. Unfortunately, one of those was responsible for Henderson's goal.

Could easily have gone either way today, though tbh it seems to have been that way in most of our games this season: somehow we seem to keep plucking a result out of the bag,

Good luck for the rest of the season.

I posted about the brevity of the release list when it was issued. Thought several offered contracts would be released. That though requires the manager to be confident he can bring better in with the funds freed up from those released. I don’t blame BBM for that, as the team responded well when he took over.
He has recruited 2 very decent centre half’s and two good goalkeepers. Plus an excellent left back. So I think he has an eye for a player that will suit us. The next 6 weeks will tell us all including the board if we have enough to avoid a real relegation scrape. I think we do, and suspect the board will have the same view. Only if towards the end of the window and things look bleak do I think the board will free up funds to boost the squad. This season is all about restructuring across the club. However I do expect a few to get released at the end of the season, and those to be replaced and more. The squad is just to small to be competitive through out the season.
We get RND and Luke back next week, and hopefully McShane will be fit enough for 90 minutes. I would love Rathbone back. Then we will start picking up points.
Another 3 wins on the bounce please lads.

Oh to be able to "pluck a result out of the bag" ....we can only dream of it, here4.

Thanks for the clarification on Jamie Allen......he was a class act when he was with us.

WE are working on a wafer thin squad too....with kids( like your Declan Drysdale) drafted in to cover for injuries, suspensions and pesky international call ups.

to quote you "Never known anything like it"......

If Hendo beats the record this year like he says he will then chances are he'll move on and he'd have every right to. Good luck to him.

What that means for us is quite worrying. Hopefully we have irons in the fire or youngsters ready to step up. I'm not so confident.

Totally agree re Done and Alby.
With regards to Calvin, I would seriously question that he has contributed on anything like a required consistent basis for the last two and a half seasons. The odd game yes but he’s generally been ineffective as a forward. He’s contributed a paltry six league goals in this time. It’s been pretty much a decline from 2017 and it’s coming up to the 12 month anniversary of his last goal (including cups!!) for the club. It has to stop. It certainly played a role in Hill’s demise. Whether it’s starting him or bringing him on as sub, it’s just not working and hasn’t for far too long. BBM needs genuine forward options, his own managerial career may ultimately depend on whether he gets them.

Can see those points as totally valid. My post was in response it being said that “Calvin was never up to this level”. That’s just wrong.
