So which is it, the Newcastle game or the accounts? The latter will have been know about when they agreed it less than four weeks ago here:
https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2019/december/fans-forum-to-be-held-in-januar

The Newcastle game should have little or no bearing on the following: “the Board of Directors a presentation to supporters which will outline the future of the Club, as well as covering recent events and where we currently stand in the present.”
As there is presumably an ongoing plan which everyone at the club is aware of, such a presentation is simply for the benefit of supporters to give them a better understanding.

However, as we have now been told that they wish to “provide further financial clarity” then it will be fully expected that such information is presented in a way that removes doubt and provides that clarity to not only those present, but via a recording of the event as requested via the Trust previously.

Not sure how that fits with the shareholders AGM, as it looks like any questions they may have will be asked/debated previously at the upcoming forum as part of providing further financial clarity after the accounts are published.

Would fully expect the Trust to confirm the exact date of the forum as a matter of priority.

I think it is quite reasonable to postpone the Forum till after the Newcastle game.....we may land another Home game in next round, hopeful I know. But important to our income.

Regarding the Accounts surely there would be Draft figures available ?

I know it’s already looking at being rearranged but I just don’t get why a prepared presentation has to be postponed because of a game the next day?

The forum was around giving supporters a better understanding of recent events, where we are at present and the direction of the club going forward. The current FA Cup run, while important to the club’s finances, should have little or no bearing on what the evening should be about.

Totally appreciate the extra work involved in sorting out the replay, which alone with confirmation of a new date for the forum would be somewhat expected, however there is now mention of the accounts and providing “further financial clarity”, so the cup game is really not that much of an issue.

The commitment around clarity has been made now though, so that’s a good thing.

As has already been pointed out, the schedule for publication of the next set of accounts would've been known at the time the date of the forum was set, and in my view the evening prior to a fixture like the visit to SJP (and possibly after a favourable result against Bolton too) would've presented the Board with a heaven-sent opportunity to have fans turning up in a pretty good mood

Whatever the reason for the postponement, and in the absence of further clarification as to why the original date wasn't possible to fulfil, i think they're shooting themselves in the foot by changing it. Other than that, i'm not that bothered, providing it's not re-scheduled for the following Monday (20 Jan) since i've made alternative arrangements for that date

Seems perfectly sensible to me for the reasons given - a few days delay that is all. In contrast to many clubs our Board are prepared to meet face to face with fans and by then the up to date figures will be in the public domain.

In the last 3 years, accounts have been received by shareholders in April ahead of a May AGM. The accounts have come with the comment "Can I remind you of the confidential nature of the information in these documents and the Board thanks you for not sharing them publicly." Fair enough, and shareholders have, AFAIK, respected that, the numbers coming in to the public domain eventually. Seems odd that the most recent set of accounts appear to be used as "clarity" and are (in some form) being shared publicly several months ahead of the AGM.
As for the forum cancellation, it's a "damned if you do at the end of the month with accounts, damned if you don't without accounts as it coincides with a brilliant FA cup tie away the day after" scenario for the board of directors, which is unfortunate.

I guess if we only want to attract fans living within a couple of miles of Spotland it is fine. But I took them for their word and booked an extra nights stay in Rochdale so I could attend this. It is 140 miles away for me and could be justified because I was already going to attend the Bolton game and was prepared to pay another night in a hotel so I could attend a fans forum. Another hotel night wasted and no doubt won't be able to attend the re-arranged one. A bit like postponed games that end up being moved to a Tuesday because we won't pay to cover the pitch. Aaaarg.

Surely the outcome of this years cup run, finances etc will be in next years set of accounts so no bearing on this forums finance figures anyway?

True ,these * new * accounts are for may 19 so are effectively 8 months out of date, state of finances and cash flow change monthly so they are pretty irrelevant to the position of the club as of today.
The club's accounts are audited by WMG but I'm not sure if some other accountancy firm prepares them ,whichever way if they are close to submitting them to companies house they would have known about the content probably early to mid December.I get mine for signing off by both directors then have to send them back to get sent to companies house.

Given your point about relevance (and i don't disagree), would you like to speculate as to why the postponement has occurred - other than the cup replay? Fair enough if you don't wish to

I don't honestly know ,I have been thinking about it and apart from saving it till 1 Feb or hoping we get a couple of good results I am at a loss for once.
Edit I am happy it's postponed, if it's after 20 jan I'm home from holidays and will be able to attend.

I think everyone was really looking forward to this forum so it's a shame it has had to be put back. The reasons given seem reasonable however.

I should imagine the accounts were already known about and actually made sense to do on the same day as the forum originally as certain people would all be at the club however now with additional work at the club on the Monday related to the Newcastle game maybe it's too much of an overhead.

If the next one gets postponed at the end of Jan then I'd be concerned.

I smell a rat.

I said on another thread on 30 December that it would not surprise me for "Monday 13th January to become mysteriously inconvenient and for the whole event to have to be moved to a future date" and all of a sudden it is.

The Newcastle game being the reason is a red herring. Newcastle is 135 miles away and unless those presenting need to get a good night's sleep in and be there 24 hours before kick-off that is no reason to postpone the forum.

The third round draw was made on 2nd December and the forum announced on the 13th; a cup replay against any opposition was always a possibility when that date was fixed.

So to me it must be the accounts.

They legally have to be filed by the end of February 2020. The Official Site link notes that it will be scheduled as close to the end of January as possible.

So here's a suggestion for our Board:

Why don't you hold the forum at 11am in the Radcliffe bar before the Rochdale vs Gillingham game on 25th January?

Here is the opportunity to make it easy for people to go; see the vision and be in the area for the game.

11am doesn't impinge on anyone's matchday responsibilities who works for the club. Show us that you are serious about presenting this.

The financial position from 31 May 2019 must be known to the Board by now.

You cannot hide it from us or the public domain forever.

I am wondering if the level of distrust of the club has reached a level on here that is unhealthy? while we clamor for information every communication from the club is treated with suspicion. There is nothing suspicious it is a postponement not a cancellation with all the attention being on the replay.

This is not the time for bickering.

The more i think about it, the more riddler's point about waiting till the end of the transfer window has a bearing

If the forum was held next Monday, and given that we've (unexpectedly, perhaps) got a cup replay, there might have been more pressure exerted at the forum from fans expecting the board to allow BBM at least a little more leeway in financing additions to his squad. That's not to say there won't be additions, but perhaps the board would rather present our finances as unfavourable at the end of the window than on the 13th when the clamour to loosen the purse-strings would be greater; especially since BBM's stock has risen further after his astute game management during the home cup tie

That was my only reasonable explanation until I got 2 text messages 5 mins ago ,are the club allowed to give sensitive information out about accounts until shareholders either vote on it or have actually seen it. I don't know for sure I don't know company law that well and I can't find out as I'm on holiday and I'm not pestering my accountant ,wife will go mad.

I believe the board are genuine in wanting the forum to happen.

I understand that the presentation idea came from the Trust.

We need to bear in mind that some of the board are unpaid and have interests outside of the club and to make a Monday night and then Tuesday night for these events may be beyond their free time.

Also bear in mind a desire to still go ahead as near to the end of January as possible.

If I was to be critical I would take RAFCBLUES line about known dates and contingency planning. There is a danger of lip service being applied. A lack of forethought applied to the date similar to the Sunderland debacle last season when they'd been to Wembley the week before. Not being wise after the event here, neither.

The accounts, I think, should be disclosed to shareholders before the rest of the fan base. I guess that is protocol that should be observed and forgive me if I have misread the intentions of the postponement in light of the imminent posting of 2019 accounts.

Please also bear in mind that this unprecedented mid-season forum came about as a result of some serious questions and unclear answers to fans questions via the Trust, and you have to admire the boards desire to get over this divide and address the grey areas for the benefit of both sides of this definite divide.

As much as the postponement is a disappointment, I do not think it warrants suspicion or scorn at all, clearly dependent on a new date being announced and adhered to.

I also expect the accounts to show a significant deficit to May 2019.
