The problem is DA, that people are generally selfish pricks sadly. All they care about is themselves and I am seeing this so much more since this virus has appeared.
My gut instinct is to help others that need help, even if it’s just making sure they are safe, warm and have essentials.
My other half and 3 kids aged 12 14 and 19 have the following mentality.
Eldest, back from uni doing whatever be it pub, Nando’s greggs etc. Middle one not off Xbox other than to eat, youngest off park and round friends houses, Mrs is just bothered about money and if she will get paid, which she will.

I guess people will react differently to unprecedented and threatening events. Might be the youngsters can't (or haven't yet) got their heads round it, so are desperately telling themselves to "keep calm and carry on" whilst inwardly panicking. And that might apply to plenty of older people too

I just tend to think he's trying his damnedest to do what he believes is the right thing, whilst having to rely on the scientific advice with which he has no expertise. The stakes couldn't be higher though, way beyond economic prosperity
My daughter's wedding in June is in serious doubt. We all have a personal stake in this, and we'll get through it more readily without politicising everything, and tbf, most politicians on all sides appear to be willing to work together. As you say, we might try to do the same

Not the worse suggestion in the world when you take away the hysteria it would cause. I've been out of the UK since 22nd Jan and am due back 1st April. The best thing that could happen to me as an individual is to get the virus before I get back. It means I then won't be able to catch it in the UK, won' be able to give it to anyone and won't need a vaccine when one arrives. My age and health status mean I am unlikely to have any issues with the illness either. The only reason I don't want it now is that I might just bump into a vulnerable person where I am staying. However the principle of what you are saying is correct. When the vaccine is available we will be injecting everyone with a low risk version of the disease anyway |  | | |

Sorry to hear that. I was made redundant at the end of feb for the first time in my working life and I know how worrying it can be. Luckily I work in an industry where there always seems to be a job knocking about and I started a new one this week before it got proper mad. Hopefully my new place can take the hit.

A tough break for your wife and many people in the travel industry which will get hammered this year. I'm on holiday now in countries ( Southern Africa) that have a low number of cases and yet in the last week to 10 days I have either been the only guest or there have been only 1 or 2 more rooms filled. 1 hotel that I had just managed to get the last room in 2 weeks ago ended up with only me and a couple there as 80% canceled Some of these countries depend on tourism as their number 1 or 2 way of revenue & they are being laid off in vast numbers
Tough times ahead & let's see how long bail out packages & support can be offered for
I was going to start looking for a job after Easter but not that optimistic that it will be worth bothering until this whole thing blows over. | | | |

That's what my Mrs Is/was in, she managed a team at head office that recruited then trained franchisees to work from home in the leisure side of travel, with a different side of the business being the corporate travel. Year on year apparently its 90% down from this exact week 12 months ago.
It will pick up without a shadow of a doubt,us Brits are a hardy bunch and when everything else goes to rat shit and lifes tough,we all love to book a holiday as a release.
