They had the chairman of Luton Town on TalkSport and he estimated that the month shutdown will cost lg 1/2 clubs £300 - 400k and, unlike Bury, this is not an isolated incident and impacts all clubs in the EFL. The premier league CASH reserves currently stand at £1.5 bn!!!
The money could be given in the form of a loan at minimal interest rates repayable within a 3 - 4 year period. If not then a few/many will go to the wall.

The key, in both cases, is the word 'former'. Both are now removed from the centre of active services, which have access to all the latest modelling and information sources. It's strange how former honchos find it hard to give up being in the spotlight, but the BBC are happy to indulge them

The 'has-beens' and those with other agendas are merely set on creating divisive sideshows. They are purposely being given a media platform solely to rile, rattle and ridicule the Government and its' advisers, at a time when everyone should be seeking to do what the current advice says.

So we just trust one source, and anyone naysaying is just bitter? Not very rounded, the former DPH may not be in the inner circle , but he will have knowledge of pandemic planning. I , for one like to hear what qualified people have to say, it’s nothing like getting the opinion of a former PM. I would understand your viewpoint if he had been sacked for incompetence. | |

I think the strategy seems to be - if we followed the example of Italy and shut everywhere down, yes it could stop THIS outbreak, but would it stop another one? The answer to that would have to be no. We still don't have a vaccine and that is 12-18 months from being ready. So actually the only way to stop this virus continuing to spread, and to prevent any future outbreaks is to
A - isolate everybody for the next 12-18 months until there is a vaccine
B - protect the most vulnerable whilst trying to slow the spread of the virus, but allowing for some people to get it who likely won't be badly affected therefore developing a herd immunity so that future outbreaks will be less likely to happen
I see the logic in going with B, as A would essentially mean the breakdown of society. For the time being I'm going to put my trust in the scientists and the doctors who are advocating for this option - this isn't a political led issue, its the science making the calls. I therefore see no reason why the scientists would be doing anything other than pushing forward the option which will protect the most people, in the long run. |  | | |

I'd suggest that rather than using a potentially life-changing event as a stick to beat the party that thrashed the hell out of your world-view just a few short months ago, you accept that actually it's really not as simple and clear cut as you'd like it to be
We all need to act responsibly. Even DB said so on the national news (ffs!)
We don't know how this is going to pan out, but starting from a place of political point scoring gets us nowhere and it's time to bring it to a halt, in all our best interests

Not political point scoring at all, and I’m well aware the situation is complicated. Have you thought that our governments response is political? Guided by the science that other countries are not adopting. If the advice about mass gatherings changes within a few hours, that suggests the initial decision may not be correct. Of course I’m not a scientist, neither are you and even if we were our views may not be correct.
My world is fine thanks, it was good to see the Tories aping Labour spending commitments in the budget.
This is a tiny football forum, any criticism or comment matters not a jot in the wider world.

And guess who has a non refundable flight to Sri Lanka for the cricket on Tuesday !!!FFS. Just add it to my list of long distance postponements although at least I hadn't booked hotels.
