Horrific. What is wrong with people who want to cause this pain to such amazing creatures. Right up there with trophy hunting in the stomach turning stakes.

I am not defending the story or trying to justify it, but things are very different in different parts of the world. One of my colleagues lives in Shanghai. He told me that for the Chinese NY, lots of country folk (who haven't got 2 brass farthings to rub together) come in to the city to celebrate. One chap, getting on in years, came in with a dog. He couldn't afford to eat in the city, so he slit its throat (premeditated presumably), butchered it, and put it in a pot on a portable stove to cook/eat whilst he was there. It beggars belief to us. But how many people have truly had no money and don't see dogs as man's best friend but as their next meal. I should add that I had a dog. I could no more eat dog than I could kill someone, but unless you have walked a mile in someone's shoes, it's tough to judge them. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are. [Post edited 3 Apr 2020 21:21]

When my ukrainian grandma died in 1976 they had 2500 tins of food in their cupboard ,about 40 of them with ration stickers on ( rationing finished in 1948)This was a regular occasion for wartime families ,we dont know we are born and i include myself in that.

It'd be fair to assume that your grandma lived through the period of deliberate starvation by the Soviet government under Stalin during the 1930s, imposed as a punishment for refusing the collectivisation of farms in the Ukraine (the Russia 'bread basket'). There were reports of people eating their children. (I'm not making this up.) I'm guessing something like that never leaves you. May i offer my condolences too

Cows sheep and pigs are amazing creatures , we eat them. If approached from a position of anthropological strangeness, it would be hard to see why our food sources differ from other cultures

While I agree with you generally, its only due to our cultural ideas of viewing a dog or cat as pets puts it in a slightly different category to say a cow or a pig, which many of us see no problem at all being slaughtered to bang between 2 slices of bread. Spend a few days on any working farm in this country and you'll quickly see many horrific images all in the name of food [Post edited 3 Apr 2020 23:11]

I like a bacon butty a much as anybody but pigs are amazing highly intelligent creatures, you cant beat a median rare steak yet a Cow is gentle and has the most amazing eyes and face. We are anesthetised to the slaughter of lifestock our meat comes pre packed. If I had to slaughter my own I could not do it. The slaughter of what we consider domestic animals is repugnant but it is a cultural norm in many places much is the pity. [Post edited 3 Apr 2020 23:42]

Wuhan on 10:45 - Apr 4 with 1923 views | jonesy | The food question is a difficult one. All the animals we eat are obviously living creatures and should be treated as such and if used for food should be respected.. Interestingly on Dragons Den powdered locusts were being promoted for dog treats. Perhaps that is the way ahead? However if we didn’t eat the cows, sheep, pigs etc they would probably cease to exist and is that better? However I can’t accept the sacks of pangolin scales collected for medicinal or social uses. Education is needed.

Wuhan on 10:53 - Mar 31 by Nigeriamark | another conspiracy theory is that it is spread via the 5 G network so countries who are having less of an issue don’t have a developed network There is a guy in the US called Alex Jones who is the ultimate conspiracy theorist and I think was the guy who conned the daily express into printing the China Laboratory story. His radio shows are unbelievable. He’s finally got himself into trouble with his lies about a particular massacre in the US although I’m sure the millions he has made will more than cover it. Conspiracy theories are a hobby of mine ( not the conspiracies themselves but why people believe them) and it’s unbelievable what some people will believe Unfortunately some people are also now buying miracle cures too. |
And now it seems some people who believe the 5G story have now set alight some 5 G masts. Unbelievable, especially the second theory that the virus is communicating and selecting victims down the network https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-52164358

I read the link Mark and especially noted these comments: "While 5G uses different radio frequencies to its predecessors, it's important to recognise that the waveband involved is still "non-ionising", meaning it lacks enough energy to break apart chemical bonds in the DNA in our cells to cause damage."... my question is how much more energy will it take to actually break apart the chemical bonds in our DNA and how much tweaking would it need to cause damage to our cells? An alternate question is if its a given that 5G cant brake or damage cells directly how much harm would prolonged use, say several hours a day have on DNA or cells esp in young children and adolescent adults. also this "The second theory appears to be based on the work of a Nobel Prize-winning biologist who suggested bacteria could generate radio waves." But this remains a controversial idea and well outside mainstream scientific thought. My question is how many now accepted scientific facts were outside the mainstream before being widely accepted? the doubts about Thalidomide springs to mind safe as houses they said. Be careful what you wish for as for me I wont be getting immunized for Covid19 I've never had a flu jab and never get flu and I wont be getting a 5G phone either you can have mine. Edward Jenner is named by the BBC as one of the 100 greatest Britons but I fail see the correlation between the work of Jenner and modern vaccines-other than the obvious-of which the flu vaccine is one. Jenner pioneered the use of vaccines that eliminated smallpox in the western world it has been safely used for over 200 years. In contrast many get Flu after receiving the flu jab whether that is caused directly by the jab itself I'm not in a position to judge but I chose not to get inoculated based on my suspicions.

James this is not the time for an anti vac debate my intentions will only get misinterpreted. What is happening in NZ is far cry to what is happening in Britain and other places in Europe/worldwide however the misinformation or more to the point how the figures are being reported concerns me, for example the latest figures here according to Govt sources are I quote "There are 48 new confirmed cases and 41 probable cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand, the additional 89 cases bringing the country's total to 1039. "The latest figures were announced by the Ministry of Health's Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield during the daily press conference on Sunday. As of Sunday, there has been one death 156 people have recovered from the virus and 15 are hospitalised, including three patients in the ICU. Two are in a critical condition. In the past week there have been 2448 tests per day on average and a total of 36,209 tests so far. On Saturday alone 3093 tests were completed." What the stats fail to say is that of the 36209 tests so far 35170 were presumably negative many will say our quick action in shut down has prevented the spread but that does not account for the fact everybody has been channeled through the 3 major supermarket chains open hardly a quarantine or that the virus was first confirmed in NZ on 28 February which according to which model you prefer would suggest the total confirmed cases should be in the several thousands and with deaths in the hundreds. : [Post edited 5 Apr 2020 8:03]

You seem to already believe the link between energy and COVID 19 If there is enough energy to break chemical bonds in our DNA, what is the link to the spread in this virus? Why not link COVID 19 disease with pollen, microwaves, car fumes or any of a million other things If some viruses can generate radio waves, so what ? What is the connection with the spread of this virus any more than most cells generate some form of energy anyway ( a well known fact). The second theory is classic conspiracy stuff where theorists try to insinuate that a famous scientist supports them. Has this Biologist actually said that his work could explain cause the spread of this virus? Someone has taken the fact that 5G is now in some peoples mind, linked a unrelated fact that a scientist has done a paper on viruses and radio waves and hey presto this means COVID 19 could be spread by 5G. Is there any explanation of how it could do this Jenner came up with a theory that was revolutionary. However we just didn't give people vaccines based on this. He had to go out and through proper science prove his theory. Only once he had done this and his work was independently validated were vaccines allowed. There are thousands of scientists working with theories every day, some which fail ( which in science is useful in itself) and some that come off. Unfortunately the brilliant Maverick scientist stories where he is the only one who saved the world tend to become folklore over time rather than necessarily the truth
