"What prompted that decision to go direct debit only
The simple reason is that it will be more profitable for the club. The previous twelve months of Lotto saw a turnover of £165,000. This brought a return to the club of less than £20,000 when the expenses of prize money, salaries, agents, results sheets, fuel costs, banking charges and postage was taken off. Being direct debit only, the admin costs for the scheme are massively reduced. Given the number of people currently signed up, twelve months trading based on those numbers will see a considerably more profit to the club based on what is a projected £89,000 turnover from those who have signed up already. This is something that all parties are wanting to see increased. Supporters who are not yet signed up for it are requested to do so by the links at the bottom of this report."
If these numbers stack up (which I'm sure judd will do his best to disprove) then the club have made the correct decision. Albeit with terrible execution regarding the Goldbond agents.

I think it is.
When Chalks signed up for the lotto he was sent a club key ring which was no use to him obviously so he messaged me asking if one of my lads would like it. He posted it to me at his own expense and my lad loves it and has it on his school bag.

That's the Leffe, the Wheat Beer and the DRK ISLD RSRV paid for (or you could say FOC?!?) and a quid off the Stingo. Alternatively you could buy a bottle of Champagne with your winnings, but you'd still be belching by Christmas if you drink that now. |  |

Don’t think anyone ever said it would not get started, if they did, then I stand corrected.
I think many questioned its profitability and overall impact compared to the regular face to face meetings with goldbond agents. |  |

284 old goldbond members signed up out of 5,500.
There were roughly 500 people on the old direct debit system, some paying £1 and some £2.
Across 784 if you say half pay £2 and half pay £1 that would equal £1,962 per week coming into the club.
The prizes have been vastly reduced to £350 per week from £1,000 per week. This doesn’t include the £1,000 prize, as this rolls over if it’s not won.
You’ve then got 20% going to charity, which is £392 per week.
Which leaves you with £1,220 per week. This is before outside parties take their cut, meaning it will certainly be less than £1,000.
I do wonder what will happen when the advance payers from the old goldbond system (of which I had quite a lot) fall off when they’re money runs out.
The club under the new system, never, ever canvassed for agents. In hindsight it was fully in the knowledge that this would one day come to pass, and we would be surplus to requirements. I was listening to a podcast the other day, and someone said the virus has accelerated a lot of companies plans in terms of staffing, and this is one of them.
In the original statement the club stated some of the costs:
Prize money - granted, now considerably lower.
Salaries - used to have three full time staff members, went to one full time and one part time, that would’ve been a considerable saving.
Agents - took 15%, 5% less than goes to charity and we don’t know how much outside parties get.
Results sheets - paid for by advertising on the reverse side
Fuel costs - will be lower now given there is no staff!
Banking charges - will be lower by going to direct debit, but it won’t be nothing
Postage - the club must’ve spent thousands on postage to all old goldbond members, and to get a such a poor return must’ve been damning to them.
As someone said earlier in the thread, the proof will be in the numbers next year, but I don’t think for one minute any of us have been told the full story, and if I’m completely honest, it still annoys me, not only how it was done but also I genuinely enjoyed doing it. The worst part is that the club no longer has that link to people who have a passing interest in football or sport in the local community, and that is criminal. | |

Great post Reedy The community link now severed, will be almost impossible to get back. Most of my Goldbond customers didn’t attend games in fact it was only two out of 100 customers to my knowledge did.
The ones I see in Milnrow say how much they miss our weekly chats and it was the reason they did Goldbond. They supported the agent, not necessarily the club. And to most of the elderly people I was probably the only person they spoke too face to face that week.
They were all disgusted how I was treated and stated that if the rounds were reinstated and I was collecting to give them a knock and they would rejoin, but were not interested in doing it by DD. I’m sure lots of other former agents received similar feedback. I miss my rounds so much as I thoroughly enjoyed doing them. Maybe that’s why I did it for over 15 years. Well it's been over a week since I won twenty sovs on the lotto and not so much as a sniff of it entering into my bank account,how long does it take to put £20 back into the account that they take out of every month?
It smells of a scam and I'm it's poor innocent victim,I didn't get this from Notts Lifeline when I won a tenner,it was in the next day
