Who says Goldbond has ended?

It hasn't.. Just the way the cash is collected.

Might not have ended, but it will be considerably smaller than it was!

Did you not get that letter either?

Goldbond was replaced by the Dale Lotto, no? Now an agent-led Dale Lotto has been scrapped.

It can’t have run it’s course if people still went out every week to collect though? There’s demand there, so it makes no sense to say it’s run it’s course.

Your probably right about people being unhappy if we were informed first, however we weren’t and I (and others) still haven’t.

Do you honestly think it’s worth going out 50 weeks of the year for a couple of quid and a £30 season ticket? Because it’s really, really not. It has been beneficial to me, no doubt, but if I took on a different job for two hours paying minimum wage, I would be considerably better off.

Your point about the season ticket may have been true a few years ago, but the price of season tickets has come down substantially in the past few years, and over 100 agents are still collecting from there members.

My attitude is that I want to carry on collecting from my members because I enjoy it, and more importantly I know virtually none of my members will sign up via direct debit, so the club will be losing a lot of money just off my round, never mind all the others.

It’s not just a massive own goal in terms of communication with supporters, agents and members, it’s also a massive own goal financially, and wherever you stand on the issue, that’s very, very worrying.

How do you know it’s a massive own goal financially? Are you privy to facts and figures that aren’t in the public domain?

As far as I can see, your emotive posts are based on your own situation, not the bigger picture.

Maybe the money coming in to Dale Lotto via agents isn’t delivering enough margin for that model to be an ongoing concern. Maybe the guidelines and indications are that things are going to be very difficult to have agents collecting money post lockdown for a long time. Who knows? I certainly don’t.

Whatever you want to call it, the lottery will continue but without doorstep collections.

The lottery has somewhere between 5,000-6,000 paying members (last I was told, which was last year) each member paying 50p each (if you have £1 you are counted as two members)

Take it in the middle at 5,500 (it used to be considerably higher) that’s £2,750 per week. This is off the old goldbond system and not including any new dale lotto members.

Minus prizes of £700 per week & 15% commission, your left with over £1,600 per week or just over £85,000 per annum. Even if my opening figures are slightly out, it’s still a massive own goal financially.

If half sign up to the direct debit (which is very unlikely) then on the above sums your left with £675 per week or just over £35,000 per annum. I very much doubt we’ve got £50,000 to throw away.

My posts are based on the financial side of the club, which will be struggling like virtually every other business across the country at the moment, and the way it has communicated this.

Im in the Dale lotto and it costs me £8 pm so where does 50p pw come from?

If Dale Lotto is run as a business then it should be paid via direct debit and if I'm brutally honest I can't believe that there is/was doorstep collections for the money,I thought that stuff like that went out with ration books and cobbled streets
The direct debit takes about five minutes to set up and then you forget about it,collections are made in the 15th of each month if it's relevant to your finances

Chalky, a new lottery was introduced at £2 per week,.direct debit payment.

The existing lottery (Goldbond) had run for about 30 years and currently has c..5,500 members. When they were asked to switch from cash to DD less than 50.did so.

In looking at what competing organisations do, the fact that we did not want customer bank details was a major factor for a lot of elderly customers. We are up against Air Ambulance, animal sanctuaries, childrens charities.etc all of which did not have collectors. I reckon a Dale agent is paid the equivalent of £2 per hour to do this service.

No, goldbond is the old version of dale lotto. If you were a goldbond member, you were simply transferred over to the new lotto.

As Reedy says, your Goldbond 7 numbers transferred to one number in the new Lotto.

As I understand it, Goldbond members cannot win above a certain level of prize but I would need that confirming.

I'm sure it will have been in the letter

Judd is once again correct. The monetary prizes are the same for both goldbond and dale lotto members. But dale lotto members have access to “money can’t buy prizes” which aren’t available to goldbond members, even if those goldbond members pay in £2 or even more than £2,

It's not taken long has it. It's only been a week or so since the Board were being praised on the guiding of the club through the current crisis and comments made that this Bottomley chap might not be as bad as some first thought. One 'wrong' move and the ills of the world are being placed on his shoulders again.

Is there any truth in the rumour he visited China on holiday last November/December?

Maybe it's simply a case that the board are criticised for actions that fans disagree with and praised for actions fans agree with, in the same way that players are criticised for poor performances and praised for good performances.

Tangled up in blue.

Minimum 50p. I think I have 2 on my round that pay less than a quid.

The new Lotto is £2

The link in the article sacking agents suggests members can sign up from as little as £1 per week for DD/SO

Not sure where this all stands with the gaming authorities because I always thought that everyone partaking in a lottery paid the same ticket price.

and for the same prizes!

They really have made a pigs ear of what was a very very very good (and ,lucrative for the club) scheme.

The vast majority of my members are (were) £1 per week, a couple had 50p and a couple had £2. 50p means you have seven numbers, £1 means you have 14 etc.

I was always under the impression that the new lotto by DD was minimum £2 and there was no movement on this, if you only wanted to pay £1, you weren’t put on the old goldbond way, the club was only interested in new members paying £2.

Have you any idea who Place Enterprise are?

The MD was trying to sign fans up to the new scheme at a few home games last (this?) Season.

According to companies house they’re a betting and gambling business based business based out of a cul-de-sac on the Wirral.

There accounts are up to date from September 2019 and show current capital and reserves of just over £3,000.

Trying to sign fans up to the new dale lotto? I was always under the impression that the new lottery was run by a company owned (or run by) former Burnley chairman Barry Kilby?

I've done my research on them via same route, cheers.

Yes, I was chatting to Alex for a good while. I could not get out of him how he was paid, doubt he was doing it for no financial recompense.

The other lot you mention I believe are a charity that we, sorry, the club pays 20% of lotto takings to.
