It is with a heavy heart that I tell you Cloughie died this morning in Oldham hospital from a bowel condition. He'd already beaten off Corona virus!
This fella has done more for the club than anyone on here has done, or will do.
He started out with scratch cards and Goldbond in 1991 and over the next 15 or so years raised around £400,000 for the club. Plus he raised funds for the Trust selling thousands of calendars door to door in his beloved Littleborough.
The £50,000 he earned in commission he has left to the club in his will (and some!) so he raised all that money for free, as a volunteer.
RIP Rochdale's greatest ever fan. I'll miss you Cloughie. |  |

Not only can I confirm on a trip away from monacliffe to watch a Dale match he indeed did eat a meat and potato pie washed down with Bovril!
And even worse having had the privilege to spend time with the great man in Oldham hosipital I was allowed to give home some Cadbury’s Chocolate buttons -his face was a picture.

Could anyone put a cumulative number on the total Dale transfer spend since inception?
Is it possible that Cloughie earned more for the club than this number? In which case, his achievements are even more remarkable.
I hope this story finds it's way onto local news coverage on one or both of beeb and ITV. His story deserves to be told to a wider audience. | |

Very sad news indeed. Great guy and true legend. I knew he had raised a lot for the cub through various channels but my god I didnt know the figures were that big. I dont think any words can describe his achievements. Truly staggering and then to leave his estate to the club as well. Mr Clough you will be greatly missed by many.

Just to let everyone know, his funeral is this next Thursday at 11.30am at Rochdale Crem.
Older fans will be heartened that he's using Frank Duffy Undertakers to sort him out, who can I add have been brilliant.
The cortege will come from Whitworth and will detour to pass by Spotland for his last ever time on its way to the Crem.
Attendees in the Chapel are invite only due to current times. Just 10. However all are welcome to mill outside during the ceremony or line Sandy Lane as he passes by. He'll be the one in a hearse with flowers saying Cloughie!
Anyone who attends can wear Dale gear or traditional funeral gear.
He's also made it onto a caption on Saturday's front cover of the Obby. That's impressive. None of us will ever be afforded that! | |
