It is with a heavy heart that I tell you Cloughie died this morning in Oldham hospital from a bowel condition. He'd already beaten off Corona virus!
This fella has done more for the club than anyone on here has done, or will do.
He started out with scratch cards and Goldbond in 1991 and over the next 15 or so years raised around £400,000 for the club. Plus he raised funds for the Trust selling thousands of calendars door to door in his beloved Littleborough.
The £50,000 he earned in commission he has left to the club in his will (and some!) so he raised all that money for free, as a volunteer.
RIP Rochdale's greatest ever fan. I'll miss you Cloughie. |  |

for the fans. His legacy was to spend his money on something that will benefit the fans.

Not a church goer or owt but that was a lovely send off for a truly unique man.
Moving tribute from Richard Wild based on an amazing friendship and some wonderfully amusing anecdotes from Cloughies pal Michael.
Good to see two great former chairmen Messrs Kilpatrick and Dunphy in attendance and with a word for all.
Trust was represented by Murray and Roccy.
Pete Woodhouse, R17ALE, TVOS and TTNYear paid their respects and good to see all.
I have no idea of attendance at the club but I do believe there was a decent turnout.
We will never see the likes of this man again and I hope the memorial the club has pledged to use their best endeavours to install is wholly fitting. |  |

There were about 50 Dale fans who attended and applauded as the cortege came to a standstill on Sandy Lane prior to the short journey to the Crematorium. From reading Judd's post some attended both. Nice to see Jack the Kitman in attendance paying his respects.

I was working yesterday so couldn’t make it but I managed to catch some of the online link Col shared and it was very moving, especially Richard’s display of emotion towards a friend he was clearly very fond of.
The solar panel story made me smile and Michael’s words were lovely too. He clearly did a lot for Cloughie and he’s a top bloke who has driven me to many away games in the past.

It would be remiss today, not to remark on the first anniversary of the passing of Cloughie and I hope no one minds me resurrecting this thread from a year ago to do that.
A lot has happened in the last year at our club, most of it not positive, but today was another great example of how this superb man has helped contribute to the fans.
All of that peddling up and down the hills of Rochdale on that knackered old bike collecting 50p here and 50p there, year after year, in all weathers, built a legacy that was left to the club.
Today another step in that legacy was realised for the fans with a donation to Dale Trust that will see the fans represented on the Board for the first time.
God bless you Cloughie, you were unique and you have made a contribution that will outlive us all; even now.
We are all only temporary custodians of anything so credit and full respect to the executors and those at the club who made these decisions, including to Simon Gauge and the Dale Trust for taking on this decisive and respectful step. |  |

The executors have free rein, but the will does state on any purchase that they both have to be in agreement, and it has to be of benefit for supporters.
He wanted us to whack in under soil heating initially, but we talked him out of it! He'd even gone as far, years ago, ringing up Ipswich Town's groundsman to find out how much it would cost! | |
