It is with a heavy heart that I tell you Cloughie died this morning in Oldham hospital from a bowel condition. He'd already beaten off Corona virus!
This fella has done more for the club than anyone on here has done, or will do.
He started out with scratch cards and Goldbond in 1991 and over the next 15 or so years raised around £400,000 for the club. Plus he raised funds for the Trust selling thousands of calendars door to door in his beloved Littleborough.
The £50,000 he earned in commission he has left to the club in his will (and some!) so he raised all that money for free, as a volunteer.

What sad news and what a fantastic character.
I went to visit him at Monacliffe around six months ago and he was in fine form, even throwing in the standard "f**kin" every now and then, much to the chagrin of Ethel in a neighbouring chair!
I doubt we'll see his like again, although I have never missed the several beads of snot dropping onto my doorstep on a winter's night when he called for my Godbond £1.

Very sad news. Me and the missus spent some time with him in Mona Cliffe as Cloughie and my father in law were entertaining each other with tales of everything Dale past. All the bloke wanted was a pie and I very much hope he got what he wanted!

I know Cloughie featured some time ago in the SuperFan search and his exploits were well documented and it seems he did even better financially for the Club than was first thought.

It was probably the equivalent of 8 large rounds.
What's little known is that he arranged a convenient time with each customer to collect meaning 1 in Smithybridge at 2pm, next one at 2.15 in Wardle, then back to Smithybridge, then up to Summit, then back to Wardle. Every single customer had their own personal slot at the same time every week.
In all the years he did it, he didn't miss one customer once.

Don't come on here often nowadays, but wanted to pop on to RIP a legend.
Surely this story needs passing onto the tabloids to give them something positive to write about or a crowdfund for something special for his funeral.
My mum just sent me the message saying he had died, she has never been to a Dale match in her life but she loved Cloughie to pieces, come rain or shine he would be on his bike collecting goldbond, cracking jokes and loving doing his bit.
