The difference between the 'Haves' and 'Have nots' in the Championship is stark. The most lavish spending 10 times more than the most prudent on wages. That is collossal. And the lowest wage bill is more than 3 times the cap being proposed for League One. There is almost no hope of survival in the Championship for a newly promoted club. | | | |

Appalling stat. It’s time parachute payments were done away with. They reward failure. If a club gambles it’s future by signing players up on unaffordable 5 year contracts then they need to face the music. 10 years ago when we first came into L1 and a play off push looked reasonable I thought we’d have a decent chance of trying to stay up in the championship. Scunthorpe were able to have the odd stint with a similar sized fan base. Now though the gap now between L1 and Champs seems to get wider each season. I’d love to see us go up but would expect a rock bottom finish without investment. |  | | |

It should also be a salutary lesson to those who think we should just 'go for it' and 'bust a gut' to get to the Championship. There seem to be an awful lot of pitfalls there for clubs of our size. |
Agree to an extent but getting promoted wouldn’t necessarily require spending beyond our means. If we budget for £X we spend £X or less whatever division. The ethos of the club doesn’t need to end. I may be wrong but I don’t recall Burton shafting themselves with silly wages and contracts when they were in the league above. No reason Dale or a similar sized club can’t follow their lead. You're right of course, absolutely no reason not to push for the Championship, but not by overextending ourselves financially
I think what TVOS was alluding to (and he'll no doubt correct me if i'm misinterpreting him) is the wailing on here and other media about Dale not pushing the boat out financially to try to achieve promotion. It was heavily suggested that older fans were completely out of touch with the yoof who want to see us succeed beyond L1 - as if any of us didn't. The criticisms came from some older fans themselves, i might add |  |

This is nuts! Surely they can't be meeting financial fair play!!
I tried reading the FFP for the championship and it seems quite convoluted and if I read it correctly there's an 'allowance' each season that clubs are allowed to be over the FFP. So the rules allow them to lose more and more money every year? 
I hope I've read it wrong. |
Going off that and if its true what is the point of FFP if you get an allowance..
Tougher rules are need and adhered to otherwise many a top level team will cease and i presume some are close very close i presume..... |  |

They might not have been disgraced, but they were in the bottom three from October onwards, were relegated with a game to spare and are now in the National League, which is what I think the point was. | |
