Just seen the prizes for last two weeks, pitiful, would indicate hardly any members. That isn’t going to be supporting the club in any meaningful way

I always thought that the lottery department was run by the Rochdale AFC Development Association, a body registered of late with RMB because of size of turnover.

It was self-funding and made a nett contribution to the football club.

According to the consolidated P&L in the last 3 years accounts:

Year ended 31st May 2017, Development Association contributed a nett £151,058

Year ended 31st May 2018, Development Association contributed a nett £142,308

Year ended 31st May 2019, Development Association contributed a nett £84,014

(Note that TGS contract kicked in October 2018, in place for 8 months of YE May 2019)

Last year it was said that the Development Association's nett contribution was less than £20,000 after wages, prizes, expenses etc (which I always thought were deducted BEFORE this contribution was made). This is the first full year with TGS on board.

That is a startling decline in performance, despite the club telling us in November 2019 that the overhead had been reduced, so we must have had thousands of customers bailing out from Goldbond, which does not appear to have been reported as so.

And so this year a target has been set of £89,000 turnover in order to better profits.

So if these figures are correct, the nett profit to the club went down virtually £60,000 in one year, ironically the first year TGS were involved.

It’s a sad state of affairs when the turnover target is £60,000 less than the nett profit was 3 years ago. What an absolute shambles, and the more that comes out of this sorry mess, the worse it gets.

I personally didn’t have any customers cancel between 18/19 (I’m sure some did) but not to the extent of £58,000, that would be over 1,000 members cancelled and none added.

I go back to the fact that over 5,000 paying members have been lost, and the club appear happy to let them go. I can only wish I had 5,000 customers I was happy to not have anymore!

Respect to chalky for donating his winnings to a local charity.

The jackpot draw exclusion must contravene rules, surely?

Big emphasis on arrears making Goldbond "illegal".

Ask yourself if anything else about Goldbond and how it's funds were used totally complied. I'm sure audits can show a squeaky clean trail. Absolutely sure.

I think I’ve done this elsewhere, but can’t find it!

According to the trust article on the 4th August, the club had 764 paying members.
Say this is an even split between £1 & £2.

Income per week - £1,146.
Charity - £229.20
Prizes - £350

This leaves an income of £566.80 per week, this is before any outside sources get their hands on their cut.

Income per year - £59,592
Charity - £11,918.40
Prizes - £18,200
Additional prizes (rollover being won say 6 times and the August and Christmas draws) £16,000

This leaves an income of £13,473.60, again before any outside sources take their cut.

Don't forget the acquisition costs - £54.00 if signed up by Place Enterprise. I also expect TGS will charge for anyone signing up directly (ie on line)

TGS will charge c. £2,000 per month plus expenses and there may well be another party involved, according to a colleague who is involved with another football club.

We can go round the houses on this for months, some with agendas, some without. Top and bottom is Goldbond peaked at 17,000 members @ 50p circa 2001 creating £5,000 profit per week. This continued for several years. The slide from being the biggest lower league lottery came when the canvassers stopped canvassing and started collecting.

A switched on Board back then would have jumped on that. Today’s shenanigans are a result of previous incompetence.

Don't mention that to Steve Walmsley...

For some reason the fact that the Lotto hasn't acknowledged the receipt of my letter and confirmed that they've forwarded the money has irritated me somewhat,I think that it because of the way that they treated the agents so I've sent an email asking for confirmation of the donation

You should definitely receive an email reply then as the CEO said in his recent interview that all emails the club receives are replied to.

Sadly the club does not employ lotto staff any more.

I do find it somewhat ironic that the mad dash to convert or sign up members to direct debits still results in prizes being paid by cheque, especially as more bank branches close down.

Did you join up as chalky, chalky, or did you use your real name?

I received a reply to my email today asking if my winnings had been forwarded to charity as asked,it stated that a new cheque was in the post with my name on it and thanked me for my email,I'm presuming that if they've send me another cheque then the charity never got the money otherwise they would just have confirmed that it had, they won't lose out though as I shall forward the donation myself
The reply came the next working day so that was pretty quick to be fair to.them

The thought of tripe is disgusting but the thought of it not makes me want to boff, the fact that it has to state that it's easy to digest makes me suspect that I wasn't on my own back in the day
Is it one of those things that you're grandparents HAD to eat because of the war or has anyone younger than 40 tried it?

I like tripe, elder and all that kind of stuff, because it was what was put in front of me when I was growing up. A cowheel was added to a pan of soup or broth to thicken it up and give it some 'body'. Tripe and onions was lovely. Just got on with it. There were so many varieties then. Black tripe, thick seam, honeycomb plus more. Elder was always nice with salt and vinegar, especially on an oven bottom muffin. Took that to work many times in my sandwiches.

My late Uncle had years of trouble with stomach ulcers and when they flared up, he was always eating a tripe diet until they settled down. A much used food when stomach disorders were a problem.

The problem these days is finding places that sell it.

A pigs ear?

Is it Rochdale slang for something or maybe the name of a pint because they can't be genuine pigs surely?
