MORTON HOUSE / Why Matt Southall MUST fail the EFL owners test (part 1) 13:35 - Sep 17 with 11555 viewsRAFCBLUE

The problem with Morton House is and was they were clandestine, secretive types who were do not like the limelight.

Morton House have spent £1.3m on a 42% shareholding in RAFC which currently is undergoing a disciplinary investigation by the EFL because Morton House, Andrew Kirk Curran, Darrell Rose and Alexander Jarvis have broken all the rules.

The EFL cannot ratify that (it is above 30%) and Morton House are refusing to co-operate with the EFL.

How do you get out of a mess like the one that having sunk £1.3m of cash into something that is unquoted.

Sell it to a buyer who will take it from you at the best price you can get.

The problem is, Matt Southall has baggage. My favourite phrase protects anyone quoting public sources from libel.

Here is what is in the public domain about Matt Southall:

Matt Southall is quoted as a "football agent" by the BBC:
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51974845

I am sure there are EFL rules about agents being involved with clubs.....

Matt Southall breaks the law and does not follow lawful instruction so is prohibited from using Companies House codes to make changes:
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53449265

In a witness statement presented to the court by Southall’s solicitor, it was claimed Southall been lied to about the sale of ESI, which he remains a director of and has a 35% stake in, which was the reason for his actions.

However, this was dismissed by Judge Richard Pearce, who said the wording of a press release issued on 10 June indicated a sale was yet to be completed and this had been backed up by a witness statement provided by another ESI director, Chris Farnell, on 13 July.

Matt Southall leads a lavish lifestyle:
https://charlton.vitalfootball.co.uk/shocking-information-is-leaked-as-it-shows-

Matt Southall is known to EFL investigations on ownership:
https://talksport.com/football/efl/696954/battle-charlton-tahnoon-nimer-efl-matt

Matt Southall was banned from the premises of Charlton Athletic:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8108949/Charlton-ordered-NOT-

Matt Southall was involved with Sheffield Wednesday earlier in 2021:
https://www.sheffieldwednesday.news/fan-views/careful-what-you-wish-for-some-swf

Lyle Talyor is not a fan of Matt Southall:
https://charlton.vitalfootball.co.uk/lyle-taylor-reveals-shocking-actions-from-m

Whilst very little publicly was known about Andrew Curran and Darrell Rose, that can't be said about Matt Southall.

And that's before any of the work really begins on due diligence.

I'll ask the same question I had when we heard of the previous interest as it's still valid.

What possible reason could Matt Southall be interested in buying a minority stake in a Northern League 2 club?

I'm not sure that Matt Southall can pass the EFL Owners' and Director's test from what is already in the public domain about his time at Charlton.

RAFC BLUE has done a lot of good work here.
Since I posted on another thread I see you Rochdale fans are across this already. Kudos to you.
Beware though, there is a danger your club will get fleeced even if a con man only gets his name on club notepaper.
Whoever authorises payments on behalf of Rochdale make sure none of them are anything to do with Southall.
It is possible to sucker some in using an outlay of hundreds so, down the line they can get out hundreds of thousands.
Nobody involved with Rochdale should have anything to do with the man. Don’t be conned.

Found on Charlton life boards ... this needs an accountant / lawyer for a definitive explanation, but I think the gist is interesting. It seems to outline how lots of people make money from CA except the club following the Southall take over. Even our old friend Glenn Thomas turns up!

It would appear that the new shyster is a 100% sh*t, he lent the money to buy and gain ownership of Charlton and then passed the debit onto the books of Charlton, but the question about the letter is interesting. In that he as only agreed to buy 25% of the shares, but this is not ownership and this poses the question can he pass the debt onto the Dale? One quote from the letter appears in the appendix, when he says to the infamous shyster Bassini 'there will be plenty of dough in it for us', when talking about the takeover and even better the letter basically states that Southall has limited financial resources.

He makes Steve Dale look honest, in that the time he was chairman of Charlton, he used the clubs money to buy three £50,000 Range Rovers, rented an apartment in London, which apparently cost the club £12,500 a month. He also paid himself a high salary and claimed other expenses,in all from all accounts he accumulated a debt of around £1.8 million on the books of Charlton FC and then you wonder why he he fought to keep control of the club.

Crucially would he pass the EFL F & P test, considering not only his record at Charlton of using the club money to support his lifestyle. But more importantly he has been found guilty in a court of Law of seeking to regain control of Charlton by removing the other directors from the controlling business without their consent, which was deemed by a judge as an illegal act under law or basically fraud. I would imagine even the EFL would find him unsuitable based on his previous behaviour, the legal judgement and his obvious lack of money.

You must stop it with all these facts and figures, judd.

The poor boy probably is just starting out in business..

He was born in December 1984 so is only 36.

How many 36 year old's do we know who have amassed such success in business and wish to deploy that into a lower division North West side....

Very early on, being in the Championship is touted as "more attractive than being in League 1". So, if rumour is to be believed, why try and "invest" in a mere League 2 team you can't get overall control of, buying "shares" off a dodgy company that hasn't even properly got hold of the shares and is under inquiry by the EFL, and where the fans, shareholders and directors are totally committed to the fan-owned club model?

If it looks like BS, sounds like BS and smells like BS, it probably is BS.

Southall @ Rochdale as likely as FRMSE hoisting the Champions League trophy with Bayern Munich.

What is it about out little old club, eh, that attracts these flies? The smell of shite has been fumigated and yet still they come.

I’ve read enough info already in the public domain about this chap to doubt very much that the EFL would approve his involvement with another club under their protection.

He must know that too. So it does beg the question, why bother? The percentage allegedly being acquired is below the threshold for control. Is it a bluff to force another buyer of Morton House’s (alleged) shares to step up? Or is it a plot to pave the way for something or someone else still lurking backstage?

Either way, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pin back those ears and peel those peepers again.

Up the Dale and certainly not up for sale.

"Backstage lurkers" Great phrase, fitzo.

There is no dictionary definition but I imagine a "backstage lurker", the type of actor that will never be the leading man, so lurks in the wings awaiting the swings and arrows of outrageous fortune, to make his play for the lead role.

Unless I've missed an announcement, the EFL have not said a dickie bird so far about Matthew Southall, so we can assume his is nothing to do with this test nor has he passed it.

Ben Ransom of Sky Sports outed Southall for us on 17th September 2021.

Morton House we know have refused to cooperate since 16th August 2021 with the EFL at all.

Worth reminding ourselves that the EFL test is a positive test that you must pass to carry on:

https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/efl-regulations/appe

The intention behind this Appendix 3 is to protect the image and integrity of The League and its competitions, the well-being of the Clubs, and the interests of all of the stakeholders in those Clubs, by preventing anyone who is subject to a 'Disqualifying Condition' being involved in or influencing the management or administration of a Club.

It's almost funny because, Southall has been convicted of crime previously, as reported in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph on 10th January 2004.
https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/5863097.ice-hockey-player-store-theft

Matthew Southall was found guilty and subjected to a community punishment order. "Southall, 19, of Green Drive, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to theft.

The EFL rules do quite clearly say stuff about people being convicted not being suitable to be involved in a football club:

‘Conviction’ means a formal finding made by a court of competent jurisdiction that a person is guilty beyond reasonable doubt of a criminal offence, whether that finding was made before or after these Rules came into effect, and whether or not that finding is considered to be final pending resolution of any appeal against that finding. The word ‘Convicted’ shall be construed accordingly.

The Lancashire Evening Telegraph says that Matthew Southall was convicted of theft. There is no doubt that a magistrates court is a competent court.

I know a number of people have emailed the EFL with the above information already but if anyone else wanted to "remind" them

The EFL possibly have all of this in hand and know about Matthew's past convictions from their thorough and detailed checks.

I'm not sure it matters about Charlton fans but they are a brilliant bunch of people and they have given an immense amount of intelligence to Dale fans about Matthew Southall.

If you talk to Charlton fans they talk about how everything was unclear and took them some time to unravel - sounds very familiar!

Anyway, after the Woolworths theft, Matthew Southall was found guilty again in July 2020 of another unlawful act.

"A statement released by Farnell on behalf of ESI said: "ESI is delighted that a complete and comprehensive judgement has been given against Mr Southall for his unlawful actions in the removal of the directors."

Probably one for the EFL to measure against their definition of "conviction"

Is Matthew Southall being found guilty of unlawful behaviour the same as being "convicted"

Dear EFL investigators,

Surely to God you can now get of the fence, remove the splinters from your ar*e and conclude your "investigation."

If this was a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it weeks ago.

EFL Board meeting was yesterday according to the Derby statement they put out last night.

I wonder if they discussed Matthew Southall and the instances of dishonesty in the public domain:

(1) A conviction for shoplifting reported by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph:
https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/5863097.ice-hockey-player-store-theft

(2) A conviction for unlawfully changing Company House records, which led to a fine of £21,000. Southall admitted to the act which was reported by the BBC's Simon Stone.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53449265

Or will the EFL continue to sit on the fence?

"In total six Range Rovers and a Mercedes were purchased in the club’s name and used by Southall, Lee Amis, Jonathan Heller, Jaco Van Seventer, John Hirst, and financial advisor Shaun McHugh.

Wonder what those chaps are doing now with their lives being linked to Southall forever?

Can somebody enlighten me as to what happened when Charlton was sold to Sandgaard?

I assume that Southall received payment for "his" shares - in which case that's what funded Worsley & the Selfridges bills in the meantime.
