Cheats never prosper. They have continually spent vast sums of money on a playing budget they can't afford. But so many Championship sides do. They won't be the only ones that realised they were over stretched when covid hit. They are due more points deductions from financial accounting irregularities too. League One beckons Could you imagine how they would have planned that relegation if the £2.5m salary cap had been agreed.

Last year they spent £15m on players wages. In 2017/18 they spent £46.9m despite having a turnover of less than £30m. It was always going to catch up with them

But this is the rat race that modern day football has become. Every club to a certain extent has to get on the merry-go-round,it’s just a case of how fast do you want to go until you eventually fall off. Supporters demand success and they want it now, not next season or the one after that. Clubs with sugar daddies are the worst affected, Bury a prime example of how things can go tits up and it’s always the dedicated, life long fans who suffer the most. All the more reason for the fans, as Dale have recently shown, to say we’re not putting up with these fly by nighters who couldn’t care less about supporters, only their bottom line. Every fan wants their team, their town to be successful, but they can’t all be champions and would prefer relegation to extinction every day of the week. Of course Derby will bounce back, most administration clubs do, but it still won’t stop this mayhem from happening time and time again no matter what the FA say. The tail has wagged the dog for far too long as it is and will continue to do so.

Further to the above, I thought the Johnson government were doing a big inquiry into modern day football, or has that all been shelved due the covid?

This will continue to happen when there are no real punishments. The fans will start calling foul, the owner will do a runner, plunging them into administration, yes it may go to the wire but there’s always someone willing to buy them now they are debt free, then clear of debt they carry on as though nothing has happened.

Just look at the side near the top of league one!! Two have had millions of debt wiped out just the the last couple of years and both are spending millions.

Bolton and Wigan had benifactors who ‘supported’ then but ultimately left them with an unsustainable club. Derby are the same.

A 21 point deduction is coming for Derby.

12 immediately for entering administration and then a further 9 for the failure on financial submissions previous.

That will relegate them to League 1 and see mass change at their club which will take years to recover from.

To be fair to the EFL it is only enforcing the well advertised rules on financial governance which have been alive for years.

It's the fans I feel sorry for though and no doubt the vultures will circle their club as Morton House did with us recently.

Derby County up the with no paddle ...... on 20:05 - Sep 19 by DiddyDave

Thank you.

You're welcome

It's a moot point whether any legislation which follows on from the report has sufficient bite to bite the legs off the likes of Curran, Rose, Southall and their very sad fellow travellers who will die very unhappy after doing nothing except trying to shaft people and communities

Or whether an independent regulator could be established in time to help Dale

But the report might just give the EFL sufficient courage in the interim to take the kind of steps we'd all have liked them to have taken on our behalf - such as banning the above-named from ever being able to have any control at a football league club due to the very obvious nature of their intent and methodology

It still beggars my belief that the EFL haven't found the means to have done so already, given the evidence

I think that EFL's biggest problem is the sheer scale of the apparent problem within the various clubs that have these problems.

Since January 2019, they have had issues with:
* Bury - allowed an unsuitable owner to take over from Stewart Day
* Swindon
* Macclesfield
* Wigan Athletic
* Bolton
* Derby
* Charlton

I have probably missed some in that list too. 6 out of 7 of those have changed owner in the last 24 months at least once and mainly not for the better.

5 of the 7 have played Premier League football in my lifetime.

It does make you question whether the role of regulator is one of prevention or cure. We saw with our own research, interest and uncovering that Curran, Rose and Jarvis all sat in this below the radar web of behaviour which is undermining the English game.

My personal view is that the EFL just wait as long as possible to gather the evidence required - there is no rush to prosecute and in most cases the loser is the club concerned and not the chancers who are abusing it.

You're probably right in that analysis

In my view, the EFL suffers from - or has suffered from - a culture of giving every odious shyster the benefit of the doubt until the modus operandi started smacking them in the face repeatedly

Just look at the evidence you yourself have skilfully and diligently collated over the past few months. One man, plus a few others with particular skillsets who just happen to support a Northern post-industrial milltown club who refuse to be taken asunder. Where are the people at the EFL with those skillsets? They're scared of their own f-ing shadows!

The EFL needn't concern themselves with prosecution as such - that's for other bodies to take up. Its therefore got to be about prevention, and there's enough people onboard the Fair Game initiative with good experience to push that agenda and make sure the Tracey Crouch report gets properly followed-through with the establishment of an independent regulator which can take pre-emptive action. Once that process is underway, the low-lifes we're having to fight might see the game is up, at least as far as football clubs are concerned. Like all who prey on others, they can only operate in an environment that allows them to

Any ideas who the other 2 clubs are which they have invested in apart from Derby and Burnley?

Derby County: US investment group reveals £15m debt owed by Championship club

Derby County's Pride Park Stadium
Administrators remain hopeful that a buyer for Derby County will be found
Derby County owe £15m to MSD Holdings, it has been confirmed by the US investment group.

The detail is included within MSD's annual financial statements.

MSD has become a significant presence in English football, lending money to a number of Premier League and Championship clubs, including Burnley and Derby.

The Rams went into administration last month amid spiralling losses, triggering a 12-point deduction.

In a statement, MSD says it has "loan investments in four UK football clubs" at an amortised cost of $208m (£153.47m) and that they "believe the company's exposure to new opportunities will grow over the upcoming years".

It has become common practice in recent years for Premier League clubs to borrow TV money in advance of central distribution to provide more flexibility in the transfer market.

As a second-tier club, Derby have no access to those funds.

And MSD confirmed that "one of the underlying borrowers associated with a £15m loan entered administration".

However, the statement added that "the company holds collateral well in excess of the loan's outstanding principal and interest".

This is understood to be against Derby's Pride Park Stadium.

In addition to this sum, Derby are known to owe HMRC in excess of £20m, plus significant sums to other football creditors, including former manager Phillip Cocu, ex-captain Richard Keogh, and Arsenal, who have deferred the remaining £8m they are owed for Polish defender Krystian Bielik.

Club sponsor 32Red has offered to advance payments for the remainder of the season to help Derby in the short-term but the administrators have said they will need to borrow money at some point.

Not they over stretched themselves at any point.......

and still the rules allow it. Borrow money against future TV revenues, borrow money to buy players you can't afford, spend more than 100% of your revenue on players wages, etc etc. And nobody thinks that is cheating
