Don't know if it's just me but how bad was the planning for the away end last night! You expect to queue but getting in after kick off because we couldn't force our way up the stairs and then, after noticing the entire seating arrangement was in chaos we ended up a block away from where we were supposed to be sat and we had to split our group all over the place, with me sat on my own - at least I got a seat, there were loads perched on the stairs and not even in a seat they'd paid for! How do they cope with Premier League games??

Certainly not just you. It was a shambles. Lots of stewards about, doing absolutely nothing, looking into the distance with vacant expressions Fancy dan ticketing systems that then leave you anywhere but the seat that you have been allocated. However far more important the crowding on the steps, in and out is fraught with danger without proper stewarding. Thankfully our fans were well behaved in that confined space but others in the future might not be. How on earth the width of the gangways running parallel with the pitch got past planning is beyond me. There was hardly enough room for single file traffic let alone two files. Queueing on the steps in what was effectively a tunnel, Ibrox came into my mind. On a lighter note, regardless of the scoreline I was really pleased with the performance and thought our leaders post match interview was spot on. Up the Dale

I agree. It was chaos trying to get from the concourse up the steps into the away end, and the design of the away end is poor to say the least. We sat very near the top, and a visit to the catering was almost impossible with the way blocked by standing supporters and stewards. It's an old stand, and really isn't fit for purpose these days. Lord knows what would happen if there was an emergency.

What was noticeable since the last time I was in that end is that they’ve replaced all the old wooden seats with plastic and at the same time seemingly removed/narrowed the horizontal walkways across the stand to get more seats in.
The decision to check tickets of everyone is fine if a) you’ve enough stewards to do it and b) more to make sure people sit in their allocated seats. If not, may as well let fans sort themselves out in an unallocated seating situation and reduce the capacity accordingly as we have done in the past. At least that way, it avoids the build-up of people on the steps and people will just spot seats where they want to sit.

Pi$$ poor stewarding was the cause. Of the 3 flights of steps, one should have been allocated for fans to go DOWN and stewarded properly. The remaining two flights, should have been solely for fans going up to their seats. There were also 3 police officers stood there, just watching it all happen. On a bigger scale the same kind of problem has led to tragedies before.
People were physically being brushed aside by others going against the flow. Ridiculous and a disaster waiting to happen.
How the hell they manage when United or Liverpool are there, I can't imagine.
Edit: Forcing people to throw away their sandwiches and sweets before passing through the barrier was ridiculous. Poor bugger in front of me was told to either 'eat it or bin it' or he wouldn't be allowed in. He'd have done well to launch a cheese sandwich and a packet of Fruitella from row X on to the pitch. Pathetic policy.

Good point, some fans are just bloody stupid and think they can please themselves, but again it's down to proper stewarding. Or lack of it.

Fecking tinpot club, thinking they are big in someway....their tannoy boy was even worse than ours, at least we show courtesy towards the opposition. As for the silly little hooligans in the burnley side of the cricket stand, I found them laughable and very embarassing. What a sad set of fans and a bloody awful club to boot. I will definitely be going when they play West Ham , lets hope its not a night match.

Going to a seat close to kick-off It's always going to end in confusion and a bottleneck when there are so many Dale fans. The seating blocks and numbers are not obvious for the first-timer so help was required. Getting my seat 20 minutes earlier everything went smooth and there were no problems at all.

They also refused to allow away tickets to be collected right until the 11th hour after initially saying it would be OK, claiming staffing issues. This when allowing home tickets to be collected. There were 2 windows, neither signed. I was asking for an away ticket at the wrong window and a bloke next to me was after a home ticket at the wrong window. At one point our club secretary nearly had to dish tickets out from the door of the first team coach. That club's organisation is a shambles.

It used to be James. Very poor signposting from Burnley. I didn't see any signs directing away fans. There were hundreds of Dale fans heading to where we used to get into the ground and nobody stopping them from going the wrong way.
They're beginning to look quite tinpot.

That would explain all the Dale fans heading down that road and then doubling back after being pointed in the correct direction by the stewards. Absolutely right sign posting should have been a lot more professional.

Re the food, I and the person I went with were both allowed to take food in with no problems.
Re the crowd, I agree it was a farce, and a potentially dangerous one. But I’m with scooby in that we could’ve done so much better ourselves. The amount of people I saw trying to sit in large groups together, only to get moved on later and cause even more chaos. Chalky often jokes that Dale fans can’t cope in large crowds and a part of me agrees with that. We’re used to non-allocated seating, and whenever we get in crowds with allocated seating we see situations like last night, albeit to a lesser degree.

The organisation outside could have been a lot better - a lot of fans didn't seem to know there were queues to the entrance from both directions. The cricket ground side was around 100 metres long but the the other side where the coaches were parked was only around 10 metres long - it took us only a few minutes to get in so the stewards and police should really have been splitting the queue. Inside there was a lot of crowding around the first set of stairs but the 2nd set of stairs beyond the snack bar was empty - then you just had to walk across to your seat. Dale fans really need to start sitting in allocated seats when we have a sold out crowd - it's just idiotic behaviour and it causes all the problems with fans sat/stood in the walkways.

As others had said in retrospect maybe a reduced allocation and none reserved seating may have been safer. But then we'd complain about the amount of tickets available. I knew what was coming and just got their extra early. The limited access into the stand was also pretty poor and the scanners at the gates weren't working at half of the gates.
On a more serious note the kiosks were rubbish compared to our new setup. They can keep their Holland's pies!!

Yes definitely more down to the communication rather than the decision for one ticket each. But it was pretty clear early on from comments on here and social media that it was going the way it did.
