First half was tedious beyond belief.
Post, bar and a great save from their keeper, but some dreadful passing in those last few minutes wasted potential opportunities. Left it too late to bring Andrews on for him to bully their defence.
Have to say their 24 was head and shoulders best player on the pitch.

So we’ve won 1 in 5 at home as we enter October.
Stockdale seriously needs to learn (and quickly) that he continues to get our shape, formation & tactics wrong in home league games.
Three centre halve with wingbacks, away from home, will continue to grind out results in this division however it won’t at home.
We need to get on the front door with a more attack minded formation to try and break down these poor teams early on, or we will continue to see this same pattern throughout the season.

Agreed. Love O'Keefes season so far but today he was not at it at all.
That no one at all clapped his MOM award spoke volumes.

A really flat team display, especially the first half which was turgid fayre in the extreme, and reminded me of a BBM performance. When we changed it up in the final third, we were either unlucky or not good enough.
Have to agree with most comments on here. EOC was my man of the match by some distance, and O Keefe was pretty awful for most of the game which is a worry. He seems way too focussed on throwing himself to the floor instead of delivering a quality cross or even a shot. Lord knows how people chose him. I can only assume that they must have enjoyed the bar..
McGahey was excellent for them (didn't know he played for them ) but he had Beesley in his pocket all day.
I wasn't impressed with either of our full backs either, especially the woeful passing by Dorsett and I think it was Newby who was far too weak in the challenge leading to their goal, which was well taken.
Positives? Err a good crowd, plenty of noise from Oldham in spite of the usual knuckle draggers and a decent performance from Morley again, despite someone sitting nearby telling anyone who'd listen how rubbish he is.
I hope Robbie has a few words for most of the team after that. Sadly, it illustrates that our squad players are not quite good enough to start yet. [Post edited 25 Sep 2021 17:52]

Agree. I felt angry at our pedestrian approach and unnecessary carelessness. Too many times, players were looking to hit the deck instead of play the ball. I don't know where that habit has crept in, but it needs to stop.

I couldn't understand why, when Andrews came on, we took Newby off.
Surely taking off Dorsett and switching Swiss Army Jimmy to left back would have been worth the gamble for the last 10 minutes, especially given the paucity of Dorsett's performance.
I just can't get my head around the way we played today, starting with Coleman tapping virtually every goal kick to O'Connell. Where's that come from, all of a sudden? |  |

Agree with much already written. O'Keefe has now had back-to-back poor performances. I think he should have been subbed at half time (better still, rested after Burnley) with Keohane switched to RB & Done on at LB. Agree Cashman was poor but Newby was worse - too weak in the challenge, poor passing & regularly lost the ball. Playing 2 * narrow no 10s doesn't work if they never break the first line & Odoh showed much more drive and defensive tenacity than Newby or Cashman. True, we were outmuscled (as will not be uncommon in League 2) and McGahey was highly efficient but I think the referee let them get away with too much 'taking players out', was completely conned with the time-wasting and I'll await the highlights to check out the 3 pen appeals. | |

I didn't go today.. Had a sense about the game & as I have previously been open & honest with on previous threads, I (we) have not renewed Season Tickets this season based on last seasons performance especially at home..... Will be picking games to go to.

That’s enough of a change really. It could be a season where we finish mid-table, but he’ll see that as underachieving whereas if we see a few decent games it’ll be an improvement and a good base after the last year. Let’s see how it plays out, always thought that if we were in the lower top half by Christmas that would be a really good start for a new manager and team.

I wasn't comparing BBM vs RS in any way 442.. I was just saying about my decision at the time Season Cards went on sale. Same can be said in some ways about my comments around the team as well..
This season has started better & more than fingers crossed it is a banana skin today but have doubts... how many times do we believe we can or should beat a team (Oldham in this case, Derby etc well aside, it could be Crewe, Southend..)
We played a team on a really bad run & got beat... Not commenting on Hexit

Fair play to you if you think what Morley offers is decent for a central midfielder, but I don't see it. Plays overcomplicated balls forward which very rarely pay off and his set pieces are often poor.. |  |

Today felt like a combination of:
- The team being absolutely knackered;
- Some poor tactical decisions with the team picked... it looked disjointed at times;
- Lack of experience in the starting 11 to deal with Oldham's physicality & gamesmanship;
- Possibly some complacency; did the younger lads expect to go and walk over the bottom of the league team?
Also this may be a controversial opinion, but I worry that a couple of the team may be believing their own hype... O'Keefe and Cashman particularly have been getting almost hero worship on social media (& they are clearly enjoying it) and at times today it felt like they were trying to do popular stuff rather than simple stuff. The 2 dives from O'Keefe at the start for example - did he have half an eye on winning and taking a penalty rather than playing the simple cross across the 6 yard box.
Hopefully today has got that shocking performance out of our system... its the first time I've heard our fans get on their back (even some boos at FT) and I'm sure they won't want to feel like that again. I also hope Conor Grant reappears at some point... he has looked good when he's played but, despite RS saying he had a fully fit squad, he hasn't even made the bench the last 2 games. It’ll be interesting to see if there are any different players missing out next week. McNulty as well today.
Done probably counts himself a bit unlucky after his assist last week, but it was understandable O’Keeffe came back in after his start to the season. Pressure on the right back now after the last couple of games as he knows Keohane could easily be swapped to allow Done back in. That could then see White reappear, as could a change in formation. | |

Disappointing afternoon. I think the lack of a genuine leader at the back is a problem, O'Connell has the job but I'm not sure he is exactly inspirational. I think Coleman could be more vocal too. We have a very young team, sometimes they look very good, sometimes less than adequate, their lack of "professionalism" is sometimes their undoing. Oldham pressured them physically on the pitch and their fans did so from the side. For many this will have been their first exposure to this kind of atmosphere and they seemed edgy. It was soon apparent the ref wasnt going to help and we looked a bit rattled, maybe trying too hard, not relaxed. As a consequence we were somewhat off the pace, a bit unsure, prone to safety passes and mistakes were magnified.
Unbeaten runs always end and better to learn that lesson now and regroup and go again than find out later when it might matter more.
I think this is a season for concentrating on what we do during a game rather than trying to adapt to what others are doing. Better to concentrate on good habits, quality passes, than getting emotionally wound up by a weakish ref and a more experienced team determined to put us off our stride.
Longer term we need a better striker than we currently have in the club, we have bucket loads of promise but a lack of guile and devilment up front, at times it seems like an episode of NCIS, formulaic with the expectation of a happy ending and the good guys winning, when we really need someone who is a bit more unpredictable and capable of springing a surprise. Its not coachable, its the cheeky Henderson chip into the top corner, a Jenkins thunderbolt or a Paddy dribble and toe poke, something that gets a goal when all the other methods are failing.
Ho hum, onwards and upwards, were are where we are, still alive as a club, trying to improve and not yet 10 games into the season. Things are improving off the pitch and our young team is learning and indeed has the capacity to improve. We have been in worse positions. Our club isnt for sale, Oldham are desperate for someone to buy theirs, its a funny old world. |  | | |

Bragging rights to the BIFFO's - they were better than us. Disappointing for supporters and given the comments from fellow fans in the Reform afterwards and on here, there is agreement that this is the worst performance by a Stockdale team in his tenure at precisely the time it should not have happened. What was worse, and I do NOT tar all Oldham fans with the same brush at all, was the despicable behaviour of a so-called Oldham fan who was smashed on something with a child towards the Sandy Lane end. People have smart phones that record such things and the behaviour of the "guardian" of that young girl is captured on footage and it is horrendous "parenting". I feel so sorry for that girl and the trauma she has been through today - hope the police who arrested that ***t have looked after her.
Good luck to Oldham in their ownership battles ahead - 3 points they deserved today. We'll grab 'em back at BP.

I’m in a bit of a quandary as domestic commitments prevent me from getting to many away games at the moment.
But I talk to who’ve seen Dale on the road so far this season have commented favourable about the brand of football that they’ve witnessed.
So I’ve only seen five home league games and the bald facts are that I’ve witnessed three goals and one victory in those matches.
Being unable to beat poor teams at home is nothing new though.
BBM certainly couldn’t manage it and the couple of seasons under Keith Hill saw a pretty dismal home record.
As regards today I was disappointed at the likes of O’Keeffe and Newby who have carried our main threat at Spotland.
But the opposition do their homework throughly these days and they were denied the space they’ve enjoyed previously. O’Keeffe resorted to trying to crab across the pitch which saw him run into trouble on several occasions.
How lightweight did we look today as well?
Wasn’t impressed with how Newby was brushed off the ball in the build up to their goal either.
I wonder how much tiredness played a part today as well. I mean mental fatigue not the physical type.
The team had an emotional build up to Tuesday’s game at Burnley and it may have have been hard for some players, particularly the younger ones, to raise themselves for another game four days later against the team at the bottom of the league.
We saw it two years ago after that great night at Old Trafford when we simply didn’t turn up the following Saturday against Wycombe.
Dale just couldn’t match Oldham’s physicality in the final analysis even when we laid siege to their goal in the last ten minutes.
My MOM was O’Connell who was a colossus at the back, always looked creative and then, in the closing stages, came nearer than anyone to scoring.
How long will it be though before he gets fed up and wants to leave? I think this dissent is the result of his frustration. | | | |

Felt like a BBM performance. Lots of pointless passing; played at a slow tempo. Particularly in the first half.
I dont like this three-centre half formation at home, with O'Connell playing the quarterback. The passing out of defence is just too slow with no chance to build up any penetration.
