My impression of Keane as a pundit is he courts controversy, but he's entitled to do so
When people refer to Man U's sensational conclusion to their treble-winning1998/99 campaign at the Nou Camp, they tend to forget it was Keane who dragged them there, albeit missing the final through injury (largely down to his no-prisoners playing style)
Trailing after 2 early Juventus goals in the semis second leg, he imposed himself on the opposition, scoring the first and pushing his team on to win and make the final. There's few players who could've done that
He also walked out of a World Cup campaign on a matter of principle, as squad captain. Hot-headed? Yeah, and remains so. Over-rated? Nah...
I like him. Punditry needs more like him, but they just don't make them

It'd intimidate rather than inspire, especially young players trying to forge their own playing identity
wigibob is correct about why Keane missed that final, but he did miss a fair few games due to injuries resulting from his playing style (as well as causing opponents to miss games)
The nearest Dale have had recently would be Matty Lund, before he injured his shoulder. Before him, Shaun Reid
They're once in a generation types, at whatever level. Trying to have all players live up to that just wouldn't work, imo

Jonah was the type of midfielder who could grab a game by the scruff of its neck though. Maybe the way in which it was done differed slightly to Keane but Jonah was pretty physical and I don't think we've had anyone else who comes close for getting the team going. | |

There's no doubting he pushed Dale through games over a long period of time. And did the same at Bradford
Might've expected him to take up a role in football when he'd hung his boots up, but i believe he went into care home work, which requires leadership too
One can see why Keane might've been difficult for players to cope with as a manager, after his initial success at Sunderland

And this supports the fact that neither are we. Subtract the inevitable "time-wasting" cards and we are either making an unbelievably small number of mis-timed tackles (hard to believe for such a young squad) or we are only dispossessing opponents via interceptions. More grit and "teeth" in midfield surely has to be on Robbie's wish-list come Jan?

Hmmm..
The strange thing is that the Morley/Dooley midfield combo was working nicely just a short while ago, and they were picking up more than their fair share of interceptions then getting the ball forward
