Awful marking, free header.
I asked Stockdale about the zonal marking at the fans forum. He said that wasn't the problem against Crewe, we just had the wrong line. He also said we'd change it if we need to. It didn't work all last season and every team knows we do it.
When answering another question, he said he stuck with things that weren't working last season and that he wouldn't this season, yet here we are. [Post edited 6 Aug 2022 15:33]

That's just the good news. We are also playing at a friendly pace and they are playing like it's a cup tie. Really struggling to find a single positive so far. We're only 1 behind. That's the best I've got. |  |

1-0 at HT and as DL says the fact it is not more is probably the only positive ( 2 of their defenders on a yellow could be?). Worse than last weeks first half. Some shocking passing by a number of players & why their guy didn't shoot when a bad pass from Diagouraga put him through is a mystery. As also pointed out by others, second to everything, slower, can't put a series of moves together & winning nothing in the air. Defense looks awful with midfield & the front line anonymous

One more negative - Hendo and Rodney wasted energy chasing shadows all throughout the first half. Compared to some of the L1 football we played and played against, this standard is miles away. It's very concerning that we are not very good at it either. | |

Gills on cruise control for their customary 3 points against us. Really struggling to find a positive, other than the sun is shining and it's only 1-0. Similar to the period last season with Campbell, our only tactic appears to be the big hoof up to Rodney, but at least Campbell put up a fight. Not really clicking with Hendo yet. It all seems so slow and cumbersome whilst the Gills buzz about, can only (hopefully) get better. | | | |
