It's a drum that's been banged all season though and with a couple of months left the offers of help have been ignored, not even been acknowledged in some cases. It's not the fans or the Trusts fault. Volunteering to help your fan owned and fan run club was a no brainer but the goalposts have been moved and who knows who will be running the club next season? I would rather wait now because setting up and organising a volunteer army takes time and a lot of commitment from both sides, not just the volunteers. The Chairman and Directors are committed to bringing in outside investors and it will probably be those who will be calling the shots. |

I can't disagree with any of that. You can have qualifications and business skills coming out of your ears but communication skills can often trump all of those. It's all very frustrating, unfortunately some things never change. |  | | |

The match was probably our best performance of the season, the defence did its job and we scored twice , all stiched together by a revelatory performance from Brierley who has clearly benefited from his weeks in Sheffield. So much than Evans was forced to start changing their system approaching 45 minutes bringing on a midfielder to try and negate Brierley. What the Brierley "holiday" in Sheffield does suggest is that he has room for improvement when surrounded by better quality players and coaches, usefull negotiating points you might think.
Off the field the bars seemed quieter, and the stands were noticably less full....worrying but perhaps understandable.
Whilst the debate about the VA rumbles on, one of the aspects that hasn't been debated fully is the potential to tap the knowledge, contacts and persuasive powers of 2000+ die-hards. Yes we might do some painting and weeding but its the expertise thats out in the wild at the moment that might prove significant in the longer term. We are the ones that know the town, its schools, the surrounding areas and businesses at a granular level, used appropriately that information is golden, especially if we are reclaiming the Lotto as we all have employers, neighbours, mates and pals at the pub and at work. |  | | |

It was a great performance in the first half yesterday and a resolute one in the second.
I can only echo what other people have said.
Odoh had by far his best 45 mins in a Dale shirt
O'Donnell has proven he is lightyears ahead of Eastwood in terms of ability.
Mullarkey could be the best permanent signing we've made in defence since Dawson.
The biggest difference yesterday for me was Brierley, almost everything went through him and he very rarely gave the ball away, despite spraying it all over the park.
The two decisions that were made with O'Donnell and Brierley could very well have cost us our FL status and they really need to be looked into, especially the latter.
Is it too late for us? Probably, but if we play like we did in the first half yesterday then we'd certainly give ourselves hope, something we've not had for months. |
In terms of Odoh's best performance, i don't think that having Brierley close by in the middle of the park was a coincidence
We've seen how Odoh has a tendency to run down blind alleys, or fail to make a pass. Yesterday, Brierley constantly made himself available in space to receive the ball, and Odoh benefitted no end (or rather - there was some end to his work!)
All he needed to do if faced with players he couldn't get past was look inside and pass to Brierley, then run like hell to potentially receive a perfectly weighted return ball that he could control
Of course, Odoh's played in the same lineup as Brierley before, to lesser effect. Yesterday something was different. 49th made an interesting point a couple of posts ago about the time spent playing alongside better quality players. Despite all the angst about not having him available (and i'm not rehashing that here), he looked to me to have become a better footballer, smarter in his work, even after a short spell in a more cultured level

I thought he was pretty decent to be honest. Didn't fall for the acting from either side. And both sides did enough of it. Let the game flow generally and was far better than most refs we have seen this year.
I think Evans has had several apologies from the referees association for bad mistakes this season and the national assessor was at Spotland on Saturday as a result. Evans would have found it hard to call anything serious out from that game. If Quigley spent more time winning the ball rather than trying to wrestle he might be a better player. | | | |

It also depends what's meant by "help"
There's the offer of practical help around the club (the Volunteer Army (VA) not followed up) and perhaps assistance with marketing, both offered free. That'd be a start, but where does that lead?
If there was naivety about the Brierley situation, and it was certainly no worse than that, how would that change? Perhaps the reason we haven't seen the VA followed up is the BoD are concerned it'd open some kind of floodgate to their ability to direct the club, pending inward investment
Apart from the VA, how do you suggest the BoD change their way of operating? It's a valid question, because simply repeating that "they need help" or "they need to listen" becomes repetitive. Listen to whom?

His attitude, work rate, ability and desire is everything we need to give us a chance in every game, especially if he can drag enough of his team-mates with him. Get Ethan spraying the ball around creating chances, EEL playing like that, SuperMax winning almost everything in the air, Ibbi clicking and finding passes and the vicar mixing it up at the front and who knows what might happen?
My head still says we've got too steep a mountain to climb, but if the players aren't going to throw in the towel, then nor should any fan after Saturday's performance. For now, the heart wins out, but the margins for error are so fine (fine margins again) that too many more slips and it really is over. There's still hope, but as often quoted "it's the hope that kills you". |  |

Dale are staying in League Two, you can rely upon it. Crawley now have a worse points-per-match ratio than Hartlepool. They will struggle to get the 3 points from 3 games that is the gap between them and Hartlepool.
The gap between Dale and Hartlepool at 3:00pm last Saturday was 6 points. Now it is 4 points. Hartlepool is the slightly less ugly of these Ugly Sisters. Dale will finish above Hartlepool and Crawley will finish below Hartlepool. | | | |

Saturday v Grimsby is like our cup final... we have to believe and go all out for another 3 points.
Win the above and the next cup final is the following Saturday at home v Swindon.
Points in the bag (3) creates pressure for the teams around us. If we can be in touch by winning one of the next two then Crawley is the biggest lg2 relegation 6 pointer since Rushden and Diamonds away. | | | |
