Poll: What is it to be then?

Jimmy Mc showed none of the attributes you’d want as a manager in his brief caretaker spell. I think people are projecting onto him the qualities they want him to have, rather than assess him as he is. There was no upturn in performances, the tactics and formations were the same. Go back and watch the post match interviews he gave, that wasn’t a leader speaking it was one of the lads looking to offer platitudes and excuses. Baffled why anyone thinks he’s the long term solution.

As for EBJ - he never got the team playing it’s as simple as that. Best thing you can say about him is he brought in Lloyd and Mullarkey who have turned out to be excellent signings (neither of whom I expect to see here next season).

But let’s focus on the timing of this and what it says about the board. Yet more evidence as far as I’m concerned that they are absolutely out of their depth.
I know they stepped in and saved us from MH but I’ve found myself asking of late - saved us for what? Saved us so we can slide into non league obscurity? Lose our 102 year hard fought league status with nothing but a whimper? With even less prospects than when they took over? Is this really what that fight against MH was all for?

I can’t think of a single footballing decision the board has got right. Stockdale might have been the only man available for all I know but having someone totally inexperienced at managing when they were totally inexperienced at running a football club? Recipe for disaster. And I think it’s evidenced by Stockdales summer. First of all they should have got rid of him at the end of last season. He hadn’t shown signs he was the right man for the job. But by then backing him heavily in the summer they must have decided he WAS the right man only to sack him 4 games in. Nothing new was revealed about Stockdale after those first 4 games. All they’ve done is make the job even harder for the next man coming in.
Let’s also look at those summer signings. It seems that we’ve spent (for us) fairly decent money and given long and fairly lucrative contracts. How many of them have proven to be worth it? The board clearly abdicated all responsibility over summer signings to Stockdale - and sure he should have been given scope to choose the players but it’s them who sign off on the spending. They are allowed final say. They clearly told RS we trust you to pick the right people coz we don’t have a clue what we’re doing. The result has been clear for all to see. And then, having done all that, they sack him anyway after 4 games?? So hang on if they can be ruthless when need be to keep the best interests of the club at the forefront then why the fook could they not be ruthless and sack Bentley months ago? It’s almost pointless doing this now. If it ‘costs less’ to sack him now than a few months ago then why not just wait until the end of the season and (perhaps) he gets sacked without any pay-off. We’re going down anyway so surely that money will be useful.

And don’t even get me started on the Brierley situation which had to have been agreed at board level. All of this, all of these decisions have been amateur hour stuff. Yes they saved us from MH but in doing so they have condemned us to losing our EFL status and that means our long term future is just as perilous as it would have been with MH.

Much of what you say makes sense, but it's nonsense to suggest our future is as perilous as it would've been under MH

The performance of the BoD has been hugely disappointing in many respects, but also understandable due to inexperience. What needs to change first up is communication. There's a process underway to seek answers, beginning with the Trust. The timing of this sacking just makes that process more vital and urgent. Just to add, it's not about seeking "reassurances" - i think we're beyond that now, with previous reassurances not kept

I like his incisive comments on Radio Manchester plus he knows the set up and players at aDale

I’ve seen fans of other clubs on Twitter say they think Steve Eyre is incisive on Radio Bolton too…

As for your second point, that could apply to a great number of ex-players.

Who knows what sort of 'ride' we could have enjoyed under the stewardship of Morton House and Matt Southall.

The board say they are supporters of this club, which I don’t think anyone can deny, however they have no experience of running a football club. They need someone with that experience and knowledge of RAFC , who better at this moment in time than KH , he is our most successful manager ever also knows the club inside out and if the board are supporters they must also know and see that this would be the right decision. Do it now so that KH can get rid of the dross and try and get some players in who want to play for our club.

I can't understand why McNulty is the automatic choice to take over the first team duties. Lee Thorpe has done well since joining the Academy set up and would bring a fresh pair of eyes to the scene. McNulty is part of the failures of this squad without being responsible. Change is what is needed and I can't see McNulty changing much, if anything. It might also see us being able to see which of our U18's can might be worth keeping for next season.

Given the dire situation and the acceptance that we are to be relegated to non-league, we have a bit more time than usual to be able to properly plan for next season and beyond and hire a manager who can come in and working within that plan to stop the downward spiral and turn things around.

Seeing who we want to keep and assess the squad won't require much for next season in terms of the first team because you'd imagine anyone out of contract will go and anyone contracted will be allowed to go if they wish. Whoever comes in, will pretty much be having to build from the ground up anyway.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Fully agree Chaff. McNulty is not the answer...even short term. This is exactly the kind of inexperienced thinking from the new Board that has blighted our time since they took office.
McNulty should be one of the first names on the released list. Lee Thorpe would have been my choice given the fact that Tony Ellis has said he doesn't want the job.

Not saying that this is the guy we could do with but i do like how Chester have given this guy a chance.

He worked within the Academy and i came across him a few times when my lad faced Chester at u18s/19 level and you could see he was very professional and knowledgeable.

Only young but sometimes you have to take a chance and have a long term plan.

Just a thought.

I am sorry that two decent people are now out of work and I wish them both well. Overall I can see some logic in this timing. There was no point leaving it until the end of the season. It gives a chance for an interim internal appointment to be assessed, rather like the Hill situation.
Lee Thorpe would have been innovative internal appointment. May be JM will lean on his winning mentality.
In two minds as to if now s the time to break some youth in and see what they have got. Think EBJ was right in bringing on the young striker on Saturday, even if it was a bit late. But that is the EBJ story here. Would deffo get Scanlon back in and give him minutes.
A permanent appointment during June would be early enough for the new management team to build their structure.
As for KH I don’t relish us going down the Oldham with Sheridan route.

With 8 games to go, I am surprised, I thought the club would wait to the summer, then decide on his future. The problem is the board will spend weeks selecting a manager, as the club slides into chaos.

The thought of McNulty being in charge is scary, the man showed in the early part of the season, that he is clueless and could not manage to run a bath, never mind the first team, I would bring back KH for the remaining games, then promote him to D.o.F and allow the board time to select a new manager on a 1 year rolling contract.

Have to agree on McNulty, so why have the Board selected him again? Perhaps he will surprise or perhaps our Board don't know how to pick a winner.

Its tough to be a Dale supporter, that's for sure.

McNultys selection will be a financial one.
Already on a wage so no need to pay more..

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

Exactly.

Once the season is over it will be a case of seeing whose available.

Need to appoint relatively quickly.

Cant be faffing around come the beginning of August .

Just hope we can stay in the National league and not fall straight thro as others have..

A question for those more in the know than I am, Bentley and Chadwick gone but have not seen any mention of Jevons in all of the goings-on this week?
Perhaps he had already gone and I had missed that information.

If McNulty keeps us up now, not only should he be given a five year manager’s contract, he can have a share of all takings at the bars, given freedom of the town, allowed to build a house in the middle of Hollingworth Lake and top billing at the Feel Good Festival covering all the songs on the Now 23 album.

Jevons is still at the club as first team coach.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
