Jim said some weeks ago that he was working on our shite defending from set pieces and still we concede week in week out.......what really is the problem?

And then this newish one...a propensity to let the opposition score directly after we score.

Just voted for where you think we will finish and for some optimistic reason I chose playoffs.

Now then, I wrote up my thought and decided to have CHATGBT re-format them in the style of Donald Trump, here you go:

"Look, I just voted, okay? And I picked playoffs. A lot of people wouldn’t believe it, but I did. I always choose winning, folks, always.

Now, today’s game – it was something, wasn’t it? We were out-muscled, totally out-muscled by a team that, you know, they changed their tactics halfway through the first half. And I’ve seen a lot of games, believe me, this was something else.

Sinclair, great guy, but he was bullied, totally bullied out of the game. And then, you won’t believe it, Sinclair goes off and Little Jim tries to give him a low five. Sinclair didn’t respond – it was on camera, everybody saw it. We need to talk about it, folks, because we want unity, right?

The weaknesses, everybody knows them, they’ve been very well documented. But I still think, and a lot of people agree with me, that this style of football, it’s not suitable for the lower league. The team selection, the substitutions – very predictable, folks, very predictable.

We’re going to do it better, we’re going to make our team great again. We’re going to figure it out, and we’re going to come back stronger than ever before. Watch us!"

Regards
Donald Trump

I have just checked and Sir Winston Churchill also agrees:

"In the solemnity of this moment, I cast my vote with an unwavering spirit, choosing the playoffs. For it is in the optimistic heart that we find the seeds of triumph, even amidst the ruins of defeat.

Today, we have witnessed a battle on the pitch, a struggle that saw our warriors professionally outmuscled by a team that, with strategic cunning, altered their shape and tactics as the first half wore on. Sinclair, a soldier of the game, was besieged and bullied, yet it is in such trials that we must find unity, not division. The moment of disconnection between him and Little Jim, it is a reminder that we must stand together, even when the cameras have panned away.

The weaknesses within our team are not unknown; they have been chronicled with meticulous detail. Yet, I maintain that this style of football, though perhaps ill-suited for the lower leagues, is not without merit. The selection of the team and the predictability of our subsections, it demands our attention and rectification.

We shall go forward, we shall navigate through the challenges, and we shall emerge with lessons hard-won and spirits undeterred. For it is not the easy victories that define us, but the manner in which we rise from our defeats, the way we marshal our forces when the path is steep and treacherous.

We shall forge ahead, with the memories of today etched in our minds, not as a symbol of despair, but as a beacon that lights our path to betterment and ultimate victory. For we shall not waver, we shall not falter, and we shall meet our challenges with unyielding resolve and unbreakable spirit."

To be fair, Southend are not a bad team and at the start of the season, before the financial issues developed were one of the NL promotion favourites and in Maher they have an experienced manager. We played well in the first half and like normal, we were not clinical enough in taking our chances and also like normal conceded a very soft goal at 2-0.

In the second half, we to revert back to over passing the ball and pedestrian football, especially getting close to their penalty, then passing the ball backwards, we seemed to lack ideas in the second half. The positive is we are in the playoffs, which I would take come the end of the season and yes, we are still missing Rodney (hopefully he will be back soon), John and I have no idea what as happened to McDermott in recent weeks.

A further positive is we did not get a yellow card, which seems unique in the NL.

Not a bad draw in the end, despite the disappointment of losing a 2 goal lead - Southend's formation change at half time and counter attacking on the break was effective.

Thought the referee was excellent throughout - clear, accurate and let the game flow

ps - Admin - are there no player ratings this season?

Good to read that people are on here are disappointed with draw against a side with a similar record. Shows that the supports in the main have settled into this league and have up upgraded their expectations. Dropping a lead instead of pulling a deficit back will always be less appreciated but it is still a point.
Still things to sort. Man marking for free kicks must be a serious option now. Plus I hope the board are prepared to replace Shubbar, and may be bring in another decent body as well. My mindset is to accept we won’t have Rodders available for some time, and with that in mind another central forward would help share the burden with Mitchell. He does seem to be under appreciated on here. His goals record is better than I expected at this stage. He gets in good positions and works hard. He can’t hold the ball up like the best version of Calvin Andrew, but then again many didn’t like him either.
I am enjoying my season so far, results like Saturday’s happen and so do result like the one at Dorking.

Unfortunately not, these were automatic through Fans Network but aren't available in the National League.

Tangled up in blue.

Thanks ATP - another example of the NL's poor customer care

I thinks its more a case of being pleased we could still have this forum when we dropped out of the league - most other clubs seem to have their own far inferior versions.

Overall 2-2 about right but it could have been so different.

To Concede (again) within 1 minute of scoring is a huge frustration.

Just to easy.. simple cross into the box - opposition time and space free header.. plonks it in the net almost slow motion.

We simply have to start picking up opposition players inside our box and challenging for crosses.

The last 4 goals Chesterfield and Southend all carbon copy... We need to man up and get some challenges in.

I’d recommend the defence watch a tape of Craig Dawson - never fails to attack the ball and get blocks in.

Read today that they just might get saved at the 11th hour as takeover is still a possibility.

In Court tomorrow.

Deal done.

Apparently the new ground now won’t happen. So Roots Hall lives on.
