No reason this shouldn't pass through parliament relatively quickly. Can't see there'd be any incentive for anyone to oppose it or to seek major changes in the proposal - not in an election year

I understand the due diligence process with WSH is taking this becoming law into account, since the chances are it could be applied retrospectively in terms of the licensing of club ownership

Obviously a step in the right direction and positive for clubs in the lower theirs, in theory.

But, better governance needs resourcing and will come at a cost.

Without buy in from the top tier, the quote from Sullivan at West Ham is telling, I’m not sure much will change.

Just hope that the football regulator will do a better job at holding the football authorities to account, than as an example the Water Regulator Ofwat does with water companies. In theory this is good, only time will tell if it does what we need to happen.

Absolutely, but anything that takes the process out of the hands of the EFL / NL is already a good thing, since both have shown they're not fit for purpose

"Between the 20 clubs there is almost £2bn of debt, so there isn't really 'available cash' to give away."

What an @rse. Start living within your fooking means then!!!!!

I'm not sure the lower leagues need another level of incompetence. This sounds like jobs for men and a few women in blazers and old school ties... Lower league football needs to sort itself out, if the chairmen don't realise it, they should. They simply cannot go on dreaming of promotion to the " big club" to fix their financial problems.
The EFL is essentially Premiership 2, it is almost entirely devoted to maintaining the Championship as somewhere that permits the promotion and relegation to and from the Premiership to be maintained, despite the fact that outside the biggest 15 or so clubs, there is no realistic chance of a sustained premiership life. The EFL cash distribution is unfair, the biased voting arrangements mean nothing can change for small clubs.
Its time for the lower echelons of the EFL to recognise that the EFL is part of the problem rather than a solution. When a third of the members get 90% of the money, its time for the two thirds to vote with their feet and join the NL to set up a new organisation designed to seriously promote and support lower leagues and create a rising tide that lifts all the boats.

"...sounds like jobs for men and a few women in blazers and old school ties..."

Or, how about waiting to see what it actually looks like instead of making premature assumptions, based upon an image that disappeared at the end of the last century?

Asking the EFL to sort itself out is the biggest non-starter of all

I am too old to believe that they will change their spots... people who get these sorts of jobs are not appointed because they are dynamic original thinkers...They will be Party hacks and failures in their previous positions.. that's how it works , Peters Principle, overpromoted beyond their capabilities to get them out of the way of important stuff. The EFL is morally bankrupt, totally self-serving and in thrall of the bigger clubs and of course (mainly) the TV companies. But I bet the "perks" are fantastic.... Why do you imagine Bottom was trying to ingratiate himself there?

You're merely confirming why the EFL needs to have oversight of football finances removed from its grasp. Bottomley was almost certainly trying to inveigle his way into a position within the EFL. I was posting this three years ago ffs...

Tracy Crouch did a great job when appointed to carry out the review. Would you call her a party hack? Your ideas about "this is how it works" are telling us nothing new, it's old hat

Let's actually see, shall we?

Some good points 49th but beware of flapping that old red rag at the bull that is the OP - after 14 years of failure no Tory supporter can countenance yet another slip twixt....

Looks like you're waving a flag of your own

You must've missed the post where i said i'd support Labour if they put up a local candidate with decent credentials

But of course, they made one of the most almighty cock-ups in by-election history with their "preferred" candidate

Did Simon not say that some of the money should be fed into the national league, if my memory serves me, he said that if each of the national league teams received half a million a year, the Dale financial position would be more secure and this would to virtually every other team. The money should feed down to the national league, because it is effectively League 3 in all but name.

It is the same with the voting for promotion from the national league to be increased to three, it was put off last year due talks on the money between the EFL and the premier league, and it looks it will be delayed once again.

I will believe in the regulator, when I see it, there will be some delay and the premier league will no doubt be in charge through what ever means it takes.
