This is just plain wrong, on so many levels

And that won't change, EVEN IF the decision gets overturned

If i were someone pulling their tripe out (by going round pubs with a bucket, for instance) i'd just stop what i was doing

The club won't get another penny out of me this season (yeah, toy out of pram, blah blah) but there's a principle at stake here, and one that was shoved into all our faces at the EGM

Why is it baffling? It’s £500 which gets refunded if the appeal is successful (which in my opinion it will be).

I wouldn’t even be surprised if hypothetically Big Jim himself had funded the appeal, if you’ve watched his post match interview you’ll see how passionately he feels it wasn’t a red card.

From what I can gather, we have been funded until the end of the season by the very generous Ogden Family, who will hopefully finalise a successful takeover of the club to keep us financially stable for at least the foreseeable future. I’m fairly certain we can afford £500 to appeal a conspicuous red card that will allow us to play our Number 9 against our local rivals.

Wish I'd chosen a different username...

Well now we have appealed then we can hope it is overturned. I am not hopeful. Owdum have just had a red card appeal turned down despite everybody, including the opposition manager, providing evidence it wasn't a red. The player is baffled by the outcome.

Overall I thought the ref had a good game on Monday - there was no need to make such a challenge on a wet and muddy pitch. It gave the ref a decision to make and it could be that the linesman, who had a perfect view, helped him make the decision. I expect the appeal to fail.

Wasn’t James1980 offering to pay on his credit card?

For what it’s worth my view is there was too much adrenaline in the challenge from Mitchell following his howler. Excessive force endangering another player. The only thing I can think is Mitchell is such a confidence player the club felt they had to support him publicly. We rarely get say injury updates this could have been kept private but the club have opted to do it publicly.

I'm in complete agreement with D_Alien on this.

If we were facing critical games, then appeal.

But we're not, and so any money spent on this is money wasted.

We need to show the potential takeover investors that we have sound financial prudence, which clearly we have not.

What else have we wasted money in the past?.......

As with everything your idea of "wasting money" isn't naturally the same as somone else's... I'm sure we've alao appealed red cards previously

If it were to be overturned, Mitchell helped us win games that he otherwise would have missed, we move a place or two higher and, as a result, earned more in competition money for being better placed in the league, would it then be money wasted?

Let's get this straight, once and for all

At the EGM we had a deadline of the end of March to find investors or face liquidation - i'll spell that out again in capitals.. LIQUIDATION

So let's start from there...

SPO & family come to the immediate rescue by agreeing to fund the final month of the season, pending an agreement on further investment. It was made crystal clear that this was NOT about funding the playing side of Dale but in allowing sufficient scope to enhance our commercial side with a view to becoming a self-sustaining community-focused outfit. We all seemed to buy into that

Two minutes later, and for no good reason (unless the player is self-funding the appeal), the club are throwing £500 at an appeal - which we didn't have at the end of March. This looks to me like an abuse of the goodwill that SPO offered in seeing out the season. It's using that funding for the playing side, other than the basic paying of wages

It sends the wrong message about our finances and already on the back of this, some - in this very thread - are suggesting the appeal can go ahead because SPO agreed to see us through the remaining games. The appeal should never have even been considered, and those who think it's okay to do so already appear to have forgotten exactly where we were just a few days ago, i.e. out on our uppers and within a whisker of having no club to support

It's just not right, by any principle other than thinking Mitchell's stupid lunge was okay and "we need to beat the Biffos" .... FFS

In a lot of ways I agree with you. £500 on something we might lose is frivolous, unless they're confident it will be overturned - if it is, that £500 could then be considered an (attempted) investment in bringing in more money for the club.

Let's face it, it was a diabolical decision and 100% should be overturned (IMO). I still doubt it will.

It's only £500.00 (I thought it would be significantly more!) and can't help but feel you're being dramatic for the sake of it.

As others have suggested, it might not even be coming out of club funds.

If we don't back our own player when it's very clearly a bad decision by an official, what kind of message does that send?

Was it 'clearly' a bad decision though? Some on here (including myself), don't think so. Would people be so quick to defend the tackle had it been a Pools player cleaning out Nevett? Or Hayes?

Although i replied to your post, my reply wasn't directed at the point you made so much as the mindset on display already that seems to have forgotten just where we were a week ago, all too easily

This is about far more than just a red card appeal, it's also about all those who're fund-raising and putting hard-earned cash into the club, only for it to be thrown at what amounts to a face-saving effort of behalf of a player who saw red

There's just no dressing that up - it's plain wrong. Anyone who thinks i'm being "dramatic" has been asleep for the past three years

I don't think there is competition money for places in the National League. It isn't mentioned in the rules

There is a fine of £400 though if a goalkeeper plays in a colour of shirt that clashes with the opponents. In fact the list of fines extends to several pages.

There is certainly a real conversation to be had around the messaging that has come out over the last couple of months. Would hope this is not forgotten once we hopefully get a deal done around securing investment soon.

What was ridiculous about the keeper kit was that they didn’t just make him wear a training shirt or at least different colour shorts and socks.

Made the fuss about us changing almost pointless. Worth noting that although I might personally have hated us wearing blue stripes when they were, if we’d worn our home kit in its entirety against their predominantly white strip, there would have been no real problem distinguishing between the two sides.

I think its a waste of money, mainly because I dont have any confidence in the NL authorities to come to an impartrial decision. So much about this league is Mickey Mouse ( Even by EFL standards) they will give the Ref the benefit of the doubt simply because they need to keep the referees onside. Many of the referees we have had this season have only officiated in 10 or a dozen NL games, filling in with NLN and S and under-23 Premiership games, not the kind of experience that leads to good decisions under pressure from a writhing player and his over-reacting colleagues.
Is it £500 quid wasted? Probably. Does it send a poor message? Possibly. Will we miss our top scorer? Doubtful.
Perhaps McNulty has a budget for this sort of stuff , maybe Mitchell has offered to cough up, perhaps the players will have a whip round..... I don't think the Ogdens will be at all upset, its just business, like replacing a laptop or the tyres on a salesmans car... no biĝgy, just the cost of doing business. Better if it hadn't happpened in the first place but sh1t happens, especially when the roof needs fixing.

Maybe...but if you could see their player had genuinely gone for and won the ball you could probably understand their reasoning behind an appeal....as we've seen literally every single week even with VAR whilst applying the "same laws" can produce 2 totally different outcomes, depending on interpretation.

At the time during normal speed I'd have given a yellow at the most personally, but can see why/how hes gone with a red, the reactions of some of their players helped the ref make a decision too, but again most teams sadly roll around like they've been upended by a stray passing missile.

Although I disagree that you’re being dramatic for the sake of it, I do think you’re overreacting somewhat. £500 is a paltry amount, all things considered, probably the equivalent of 2-3 days’ wages for just one of our players. Not to mention that it’s refunded if the appeal is won. I don’t think it will be successful, but that’s more because the FA will want to be seen siding with their officials rather than because of the appeal’s legitimacy.

I completely take your point about how it looks when just a few weeks ago we were allegedly weeks from liquidation, but I agree with Daleaholic’s point that we’re siding with our players when we think they’ve been wronged. I’d hate to think of football with players too afraid to attempt slide tackles for fear of being suspended, even when executed accurately.
