http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/article/motm-texting-362718.aspx

I think this is quite a good idea. Bit of an extra money spinner for the club too.

I was a guest of the match sponsor against Burton (I have a season ticket in the Sandy but I'm not turning down a free 3 course meal, free bar and a comfy seat!) and was asked to pick the MOTM as one of the only regular Dale fans in the box. Picked Lillis for his excellent save from the corner in the first half and also for a number of other good stops. If I'm honest there wasn't much competition on Saturday.

I think letting fans text in their vote for MOTM will make the award a bit more meaningful. Most of the guys in our box enjoyed the day but didn't really know the players so wouldn't be in the best position to judge. That's why we usually end up with the goal scorer being MOTM. Interestingly, I was asked at about 75 minutes who was the MOTM.

I don't think you need to know the players to judge if they're man of the match or not.

However, i do agree this is a good idea, it's rarely given the right person.

Good idea, but with the voting going on until 6pm it does mean that we won't get to hear who has been chosen on the day and show our appreciation (or mock the result as most do now)

Btw Bamford, you got the vote spot on on Saturday

I'm assuming that the MOTM will be announced on the day, and the individual fan announced on the monday, good idea though, be interesting to see how it goes.

To be fair, the other contender would have been none of them.

We once judged it, wanted to give it no one, was told we couldn't, then chose a player who had been subbed late in the first half, for which we were advised not to choose for fear of the manager's reaction.

We picked Alf, then got dog's abuse via text and in the pub afterwards.

Next time I'll pick an opposition player, as it more often is one of their's that is MoM.

Poll: What is it to be then?

I think you are right. However, are they saying that we can we vote for MOTM at the kick-off? Or at any time during the first half? Or .... They cannot be serious. Alternatively, they have made a mistake. Shock, horror.

From what i can gather, their will be two MOTM awards. The first one will go to the MOTM on match day, chosen by the official match sponsors and announced and awarded as per usual on match day. The second MOTM award will then be awarded to
the player who has won the text vote, and announced on the OS on the Monday after the game. This will be called the supporters MOTM.

Nice idea, and presumably the club will keep the numbers and add them to some sort of list to be sent occasional 'special offer' texts.

Anything to take your mind off the shite on the pitch. The commercial dept should be carrying on the good work of the Trust and its members, instead of devising ways of fleecing the loyal fans once again.

I like the idea of us fans choosing the MOTM award but to give it any meaning whatsoever, the fan choice must REPLACE the sponsors MOTM as their should only be one MOTM. If there's gonna be two then it's pointless. Also, the 6pm thing seems a bit pointless as you're never gonna hear the result until after you've left the ground. Is there no way of say closing the voting at 80 mins, then announcing it in stoppage time?

Our average home crowd is around 2,000 if you minus the away support, of that 2,000, how many are actually gonna text? I might be wrongly speculating that the older element of the home crowd probably won't bother with it and I'd guess you'll have no more than about 400 people texting. Can that be totted up in 10 mins? Or am I asking too much? Just don't see the point of asking people to text who won't find out the result without going online and that's still a minority.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

the club won't do away with the sponsors MOTM. It brings in too much revenue to the club in terms of the actual sponsorship money and subsequent deals with that company. But how many times have we heard the MOTM announced and wondered whether they were even watching the same game as us? This is your way of doing something about it, and supporters to be able to name a Fans' MOTM for every home game, and the 6pm deadline allows people to actually watch a full match and make their judgement based on that. Can you really decide on a game's best player with over ten minutes left?

If the object was fleecing the fans, then it would have been significantly more than 25p plus network charge. There''s 40 quids worth of tickets available for the price of probably no more than 35p, and if only 40 odd participate, that's pretty good odds

No objections to the cost or anything like that. And fair enough if you're not gonna do away with the sponsors MOTM but the fans one should surely be announced along with it. Otherwise, you'll have people voting on an whats happened in the game and then having to log on to the official site to see if their vote was what other people thought. Most fans probably don't bother going on the official site and so they'll probably never know what effect their vote had.

And as for the 6pm thing, I always come up with a MOTM of my own with about 10 minutes to go and that's easily done for the majority of games surely? It's not often your mind is changed in the last ten minutes of a game. I do get your point but personally, I'd vote on my phone but then don't wanna have to log on to the Official site two days later to find out a result I could and should have known on the day.

Definitely think it's worth doing and it's a good way of introducing more interaction between club and fans but I think it should all be done on the day.

I agree with Chaff.

Having to log onto the official site the next day, which isn't the most user friendly, particularly for those that don't use the site very often seems a little cumbersome. In fact, most people don't use the official site.

I don't have a problem with the cost either but for most regulars who have season tickets a pair of match tickets isn't a great incentive. If you take the trouble to text your vote in it would be a nice touch if your winning vote was announced on the day.

Have 5.15 as the cutoff and make it an incentive to visit the OS to read the match report with the MotM included?

Increases traffic on a matchday and makes it more relevant than on a Monday.

On every match day im thinking with about 7/10mins to go who the MOTM should be, most fans are probably decided by then, unless you get a Dagnall style 9min hat trick nothings going to change much in the last 10 or so minutes. I agree it needs to be all done on the day, maybe it will in time, its a good way to get the fans more involved though, club should be praised for having the forethought of trying it out.
