BBC radio Manchester 12:05 - Feb 18 with 1536 viewsmeeee

Over the last week I’ve listened to the Forest Green home game on BBC radio Gloucestershire, I’ve listened to the Yeovil away game on BBC radio Somerset and listened to the Scunthorpe home game on BBC radio Humberside.

I’d always assumed it was standard practice for local BBC stations to just stop covering teams once they drop into non league but it seems like it’s just a radio Manchester thing. Local radio is supposed to serve local listeners and I see no reason why they should stop covering a side just because they drop into non league.

You can guarantee that a few seasons ago had Bolton been relegated into the national league when they were going through their financial troubles there’s no chance they would’ve stopped covering them. I’d love to know what the reasoning is behind dropping a teams coverage just because they drop out of the EFL

Good point - I'm sure they will "justify" it by saying that there are 7 greater manchester clubs in the 92 and there is only so much time etc etc blah blah blah.

The truth of it as we all know is that Jack Dearden is a big Bolton fan as also I suspect are some of the BBC Radio Manchester executive team and therefore they are chosen for commentary ahead of other league / non-league teams.

Poll: So who do you believe - Hendo or the Board?

Strange given that he lives in Royton, his brother played for Oldham and his late wife used to work at Spotland.

They are rubbish now. We did at least get a mention of our game last night mainly because Calvin Andrew was one of the pundits. Last season I was on the way to our early kick off v Oldham. Rochdale v Oldham and the programme came on early because Stockport and Man City women both had early games and they didn't even mention Rochdale v Oldham being played? This season we've won many games to take us top of the league and not been mentioned on a Saturday or Tuesday. Awful.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
Poll: Are fans more annoyed losing or not playing Henderson centre forward?

I think there is an argument that some BBC regions are saturated with league teams and some have none. Hence regions like BBC Lincolnshire and Gloucester cover non league teams. I live in the North East and Look North covers Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough significantly, but every Monday night they show the goals for Carlisle, Hartlepool, Gateshead, York and Harrogate religiously, and have a preview on a Friday night of all the teams in the region. It can be done. BBC Radio Newcastle doesn't tend to have a commentary team at Gateshead though unless it is a big game like the FA Cup.

While Radio Bolton is by and large rubbish, they do mention our scores every Saturday and when there's a midweek programme broadcast.

They've even sent a reporter along - when we've played Oldham.

I'm not a maestro, far from it, but I just engage my brain before posting.

Ahh, but you have forgotten the " special arrangements " the BBC have with Bolton Wanderers...I can't be bothered with the "beeb" anymore. Even MOTD has been ruined by pointless conversations before and after games by people I have no interest in, so I record it and fast forward through the talking..I dont even put the radio on during the journey home from Spotland. Another formerly wonderful British institution ruined by educated idiots earning far too much for doing far too little...

“Sports Report” used to be a joy at 5.00pm on Saturday back in the day.
It was the only source of information regarding final scores though: now there are so many ways of accessing information.

What about the old double-decker buses that used to go from the Town Hall to the match. They`d be ideal now for an allotment.
