Just been watching the big match live on bt sport presented by the wonderful Brian Moore from 1975.
During the prog he mentions a disabled section opened by Leyton Orient for wheelchair users and comments that he hopes other clubs will follow suit.
When were these sections introduced?..I always thought they had been around in some form?

From memory it's only in the last 40 years or so that designated disabled areas of stadiums became common when the grounds started to be redeveloped.
Most grounds consisted predominantly of terracing before then which made it hard to accommodate wheelchairs.
And the grandstands were only accessed by flights of stairs.
Does anyone else remember though those light blue single seater three wheel cars for the disabled that used to be allowed on the perimeter tracks of grounds?
I'm not so sure about Spotland but there always seemed to a few at Hornets. | | | |

I seem to recall wheelchair users being positioned virtually pitch side at some grounds..the 3 wheeler reliant robins I do recall at some stadia..the Leyton Orient section shown on the prog looked almost like a big prefab unit with a Perspex roof at ground level ..could accommodate around a dozen wheelchairs easily. | | | |

The little blue disability cars used to line up on the main stand side towards the touchline with the Sandy Lane. Probably a bit more room there back in the day, cinder track between the pitch and the terracing. Always one or two present, but for big games could be as many as seven or eight, never seemed to be a problem with the ball hitting them or players running into them even though their bonnets were about two/three feet away (a metre) from the edge of the pitch |  |

A mate and i were chatting about this recently. We can both remember those blue disabled vehicles (i'll not put on here what they were called at the time!!), but neither of could us actually remember the vehicles entering or leaving the ground, were they allowed to be driven alongside the pitch when the match was in progress? They was called Invacars,I remember because my neighbour had one and he said that it was built by Reliant,they are a rare sight now because they got recalled for being dangerous and the Mobility scheme came in,when I was growing up in the 70's they had the now offensive nickname of a Sp@# Cab which for some reason wasn't deemed.offensive at the time and was used pretty much by everyone back then,was this name local to Nottingham or was it nationwide? | |

No I didn't start watching Notts until '79 when my local team Arnold FC was playing away and I fancied going somewhere different,Forest was away and Notts was at home and it has led to 40 years of ups and mostly downs,I do enjoy watching The Big Match revisited when I catch it | |

Chariot was the term used in my youth. Disgraceful and embarrassing now, much like the systemic racism of the time, but in those non-PC days, it was just "how it was". |  |
