Postponement in July

Abandoned game in nearly August.

Yeah, definitely a new dawn.

Tinpot springs to mind.

It's not August yet.....

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Be interesting to see if Hornets deem it fit for play tomorrow. To me, it was just as bad at the warm up as it was at half time, yet they deem it fit for play at the start, then suspiciously just as soon as they have played enough play to avoid giving refunds, it becomes unfit for play.

https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2019/07/meeting-with-the-club-3/
<<“We discussed the work on the pitch. There had been a delay on the work that took place. This was as a result of changing contractors from Premier Pitches to Idverde. The new company hold the UK license for the type of pitch that we have that which protects against divots. The pitch will be extremely busy in the first few weeks with 11 fixtures taking place in six weeks, and this had led to the cancellation of the Blackburn Rovers game. A further meeting is planned between the club and the Trust to provide more details on the pitch and ongoing maintenance.”>>

The change in contractors must have occurred after the 7th May, as this states:
https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2019/05/minutes-from-meeting-with-directors/
<<“As has been the case in the pretty much every single meeting with the Directors, questions were sent in about the pitch and work that was planned for it. We were informed that Premier Pitches Limited were due to start work on the pitch on May 20th. Premier Pitches were responsible for a number of pitches at League One level, with Peterborough and Bristol Rovers cited as examples. as usual as agreement has been reached with Hornets not to play on the pitch once the work has started until an agreed date of 30th June.”>>

As a matter of urgency, could the Trust confirm when the meeting is planned to provide further details on the pitch?

At this meeting can the timeline of events be established that led to a change in contractors in May when Premier Pitches were due to start work on the 20th?

If the club could provide further information prior to this planned meeting it would be beneficial of course, if only to allay fears that any spells of heavy rain will lead to postponements. It really did rain a lot in the few hours before the game today, but it rains a lot in Rochdale so what happens when there are a few days of rain later in the year? Will the pitch drain well enough to avoid postponements and was today just a one off?

Ridiculous conspiracies like that don't help anyone.

No. The pitch definitely got worse as the match went on but players were splashing quite early on down the Sandy corner side.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

From the idverde website:
Mixto is a reinforced natural hybrid surface, specifically designed to serve a variety of needs for sports surfaces. It consists of a synthetic and a natural grass component, where the artificial matrix is perfectly designed to better promote the initial germination, growth and development of the natural grass.

This composite system creates the right conditions for perfect oxygenation, permeability of the surface layer and an ideal air-water-soil balance, whilst also preventing the formation of muddy areas or waterlogging.
"Whilst also preventing the formation of muddy areas or waterlogging"
I sense that there might be a law suit in the offing.....

Nobody could have played on in that weather, even on a perfect pitch. They’re all so brave, Ryan McLaughlin even had to wring his shirt out after one tackle. Such heroic actions in those conditions will surely see him get a part in Perfect Storm 2. If he likes fishing that is.

Oh, and there were no vouchers being given out when we left. But then again the weather was so adverse people could barely focus on anything but survival.

Nice touch by both clubs for what they’re going to do with the money, and well done for arranging it so quickly, but it doesn’t make up for this being the latest in a series of pitch disasters. Pray for the club sorting that problem out with the same efficiency they sorted today’s rearranged tickets out.

So, why was there a long conversation at half time between the officials and the groundstaff? What were they discussing? Not the fact that the players were getting very wet i'll bet. More likely telling the ref there was nothing they could do to stop the water standing on the pitch and not draining away, not to mention the obvious cutting up in places and the fact the ball wasn't running through the puddles.
I can understand the managers being worried that there might be injuries if it continued but that is not because it was raining, it would be because the PITCH was becoming unplayable. The statement from the club has the sound of someone getting their excuses in first....I was about to say £400k down the drain but more accurately.. not down the drains

No option for a refund offered. Not sure if theyre legally obliged, but the option is to attend a midweek game now isnt it?

It's not good enough. It's tinpot.

What voucher? The fans were on their way out before any announcement was made about vouchers. It takes a special kind of managerial genius to to tell people the match is abandoned before people were in place to hand out vouchers and then claim they can be used at a later date.

Nope, and I was one of the last to leave the stadium. Ushered out by the stewards.
Donate the clubs share of gate money from the match to Joe's "The Christie" fund raiser.
