2 year deal from Walsall

Welcome! Pacy forward according to my Halifax Town acquaintances.

Be interesting to see how he does. Few fees paid for him but has a 1 in 5 goal ratio that doesn't seem that good. Hopefully we got a good deal on him. Guessing Walsall have lost money on him.

Charman or Campbell to play the Delboy role?

Not sure about his football abilities, but a mate of mine used to live in the same apartment block as him in Manchester and would see him with a different girl every week. Described his apartment as a “knocking shop”

Looking better than last season already with Rodney, Charman and Campbell up front

Possession with progression.

I hope, I am wrong, but as a signing, it does not inspire me at all. Another journeyman doing the rounds of league 2 clubs. If I am wrong, I will put my hands up and apologise.

He is only 24 so if Stockdale and his coaches think they can improve him you have to imagine they have an idea about what they want him to do and how he fits with their plans. We were desperate for pace upfront most of last season so I think he must add something more to the current slate of forwards at the club. Time will tell.

It seems to me that a positive to be taken from our transfer activity so far is that the signings are of players that have been identified as being likely to improve the side rather than making desperate signings of Rag .Tag and Bobtail at the end of August when the season will already be a month old.
Hopefully they will all get chance of a decent pre-season to build up some sort of understanding

He appears to be a bit taller and physically imposing compared to Campbell and Charman so a different option.

I’d agree with that. I’d be happy if he is as much as a presence as our last striker from Walsall*

*assuming I’m correct that it’s Clive Platt. Maestro?

Scratch that. The Face informs me it’s Andy Bishop.

He sounds like the replacement for Matty Done, but with more size and physicality.
Interesting wiki page. Three times he has turned down new contract offers. May be many varied reasons why that’s the case. He clearly enjoyed his time at Halifax. Doesn’t leap of the page to me, but I trust the management believe they can build his confidence and get him rolling again. Can see a rotational situation occurring with him and the other two forwards.
Should Peter Thomas ever sign I think that will be it for front men.

I think there is room for another. We’ve lost Cashman, Andrews, Newby and Done from the squad that finished the season, so although we might be going for a smaller squad I think we need another attack minded player.

True, but perhaps RS sees Conor Grant as filling that role, as he frequently did last season, and to good effect from just behind the frontmen

With Dooley leaving, we need a solid midfielder more than another attacking option (or both if we can afford it). There's always the loan option for someone else up front if we start to look depleted

All very true, it wouldn’t be my priority either but nice to have the options if we can afford it.

Good point about Grant as he was largely excellent in the run in

I wouldn't be surprised to see Josh Andrews back on loan next season... Stockdale obviously likes him, and if he can stay injury free then he would add yet another option.

I'm quietly optimistic about Rodney... quick, strong and with a point to prove. At 24, he also fits the mould of a saleable future asset.

Not sure if its just my perception, but it also feels like we will have a more physically imposing team next season. Have we signed anyone under 6'2 yet?

What not writing off a signing before they have played? It will never catch on!

What I like about the three signed up to now are that they are experienced. Something that should help our rookies. Quite encouraging up to now.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Always surprised when people say these kinds of things about new signings knowing that strikers like Grant Holt, Rickie Lambert, Glenn Murray, Chris O'Grady etc had the exact same background when joining us.
