Jose Fonte Donates Euro 2016 Shirt To His Home Town
Friday, 5th Aug 2016 08:55

Jose Fonte has made a lovely gesture to his home town by donating the shirt he wore in the final against France to his home town.

In a ceremony staged in the Penafiel Town Hall in his native Portugal handed over his number 4 shirt worn in the final in Paris to Penafiel Mayor António Sousa.

The Mayor responded by saying it would be kept forever more at the city’s museum.

Hundreds of locals gathered outside the town hall in Penafiel which is a municipality just outside Porto to welcome Fonte, who took some time speaking to them and thanking them for their support and saying they were the inspiration behind the victory.

A nice touch from Fonte in an age when English players often become detached from their childhood friends and home areas.

The question has to be asked though, at his age just how many more hometown welcoming cermony speeches has Jose Fonte got left in him ?

Jose is my kind of Saint. I wish he was still 26. He's got to be the best centre half / central defender we've ever had. VIVA JOSE.
