The game was very enjoyable and evenly balanced. On the day considering it was a pre-season friendly both sides acquitted themselves well and will have been very satisfied with the progress of their preparations.

Our defensive organisation was first class with little space between the lines for the opposition to exploit but in my view they sat too deep leaving a lot of space between midfield and attack. Easily addressed by keeping the back line above our 18 yard box.

Davis demonstrated how valuable he is to our team, leading by example handpicking out the pass of the match to give Gabbiadini a tap in. We should play him in the position given to JWP yesterday and if the new DMF comes in as rumoured JWP should not get a starting position. It's not that he doesn't try it is just that everything he tries doesn't come off. I just cannot get my head around how he fails to win a tackle on the ground or a 50/50 header in the air.

Stephens had another good game and all those years out on loan in lower leagues seems to be paying off for him. Great to see Cedric back and picking up from where he let off last season. Fantastic when he was on. Could be one of the greats?
