Never quite got the desire personally to meet your heroes. I want them to volley one in the top corner in the last minute, not to be erudite company for an evening. Pretty sure the two things rarely go hand in hand anyway.

And call me an absolute dinosaur, but pre-scripted "banter" is the worst thing in the universe.

Well you've got to hand it to Scotland, slaughtering Oman and making sure their NRR becomes very decent.

I can't see how England get out of this. Aus v Scotland is last, so if Aus bat second they will know, presuming we beat Oman and Namibia, just how many balls to take in order to knock us out. Would be cold....but why not?

Won't be same scenario if they bat first as they will still want to win to top group. If I was Scotland, definitely bat first!

Only way is to go miles past Scotland run rate, but that will be very tough. Oh dear.

That's true. I think Rob Key said it was a very difficult job to leave as you can have your opinions and it doesn't really matter if you are right or not. Key wanted to prove if he was (starting to look a little dodgy!).

Morgan has always been a leader though, an inspiration. I hope we at least try.

It's shocking from Mott, totally out of his depth and Buttler just can't seem to make any good decisions.

Now back to the 90s one day scenario, sweating about net run rate and hoping the Aussies don't deliberately play slowly against Scotland to knock us out. To be honest I don't care because we will get stuffed in the final stages anyway.

Even worse, the debate seems to be that Topley (bang average at best) would be our saviour. I am sure he will be against Namibia and Oman but then watch him disappear with the rest against a good side.

How has Mott not moved this team forward? Why are past-it players like Moeen, Bairstow, Jordan still in the side? Why is it still a batting line up of entirely big hitters who seem unable to construct a chase, unless it is six after six? Why are we relying on a guy as our main bowler who has bowled about 20 overs in the last 3 years?

Mott out, Buttler removed as skipper, Eoin Morgan running the whole white ball show.

Just released that (finally) they become a part of the club (if I understand it right). Can only be a positive thing.

Great advice - I was going to make the same point that a case study really advances if you can get quotes from people involved. Worth trying people like Beard, Fernandes, Hoos - most people are actually nice and try to help and it would really move your project on, especially as tutors etc are often sceptical when popular hobbies like football etc are chosen. So it's a great way to stand out from the mundane.

When I did my dissertation in 1874, it was on horse racing and gambling, so I speak from ancient experience :-)

This, with knobs on. Just don't care about City one iota, and if it stops all those other plastic fans going on about their own side, good for me.

Didn't we always think it would come to this? Football ruled by who has the most powerful lawyers - what a mess. They all cheat at FFP, Chelsea, Man U, everyone. Hate all the big clubs, always have done, but it is all beyond the pale now.

I want us to get promoted, of course I do, but there's no doubt the Championship best reflects football of when we fell in love with it.

I agree on paper with your sentiments, but watching yesterday it all seemed a bit off, as it has done for a while. Hopefully just first game nerves, rust, but we hardly look full of confidence.

Scotland are a serious threat now. If we presume the not unlikely scenario that Australia beat both us and Scotland, it is seemingly a NRR battle with them. So I hope our brains trust, who appear frazzled to me, work out that we need not just to beat Namibia and Oman but in a way that gets our NRR unassailable. Not sure if that means it is best to bat or bowl first but we need to ignore the conditions and work that out as a major priority.

Or just beat Oz but we look out of form I fear.

Not enjoying Matthew Mott saying that we were favourites to chase down 109 in 10 overs against Scotland. Uneven bounce, we were playing poorly, world cup chasing pressure - an even game at best even with our batting line-up.

A strange thing to be bullish about, obviously don't want to come out and say we were struggling but I think it was a tad disrespectful, a bit delusional, to say we were clear favourites. I think his back is against the wall with this job and he knows it.

Was an ordinary bowling performance again, apart from one over by Adil we lacked class and guile. As much as Jordan is a phenomenal fielder he really does go round the park more often than not.

Nope - I've never heard of Quansah or Trafford, let alone know who they play for.

Whereas back in my youth I would have had their Panini sticker in my album, known their club, favourite colour and what they would do if they were invisible for a day.

Agree. I suspect Southgate will leave him out just due to the embarrassment of riches in every attacking position.

Which would be sad for those of us who love Ebs, but on the other hand, he would be unlikely to play much in the Euros anyway, it makes him less likely to pick up an injury, and more likely he will think he needs to move from Palace.

Probably.

Jim Ratcliffe's really shaken that club up with a new broom and fresh ideas then?

Getting your ex-manager from 20 years ago to enquire, how bizarre. Or the story is made up, which of course it probably is.

No, I wouldn't.

I love Marti and I think giving Begovic another contract would be ridiculous.

However, in the thousands of decisions he has to make it isn't going to affect my overall opinion of him if I disagree (vehemently) with one.

Lord, you would think Lyndon was Taylor Richards the way this thread is going on. Sure, he's not a great player, but he's ours, always gives his all and I think all this derogatory stuff is somewhat unfair. As if he was going to rip up the Euros anyway.

Get better soon Lyndon.
