Consequences

For anyone who’s bought more then like 4 tickets this season, I’d be quite surprised if anyone misses out on tickets for the playoff final, so I wouldn’t get too worried

Yeah well unfortunately I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if a few scraps occur in our end at Wembley where some Leeds fans have managed to nick tickets off of the club

Biggest game of the season

But as we’ve been saying all season (especially around the possession stats) the stats mean bugger all, and even then there’s many other stats from Fridays game that does suggest/show our dominance

Usyk VS Fury
at 00:43 19 May 2024

Sorry but Fury’s excuses and blaming the war and and saying how it was favoured because of that, just sums up how embarrassing he can be to the sport! So hopefully when Usyk wipes the floor with him again, we won’t need to see him in a long time

Well championship and prem refs are the only ones that work for PGMOL so it would be the same for them anyway. But their salaries can vary as they have set contracts (just the same as players do) which is why refs can’t be as easily sacked off as people seem to think they can be, which is why rather than getting sacked off they get given the lower championship games.

But wage wise I don’t know any for certain, but I know they get around £75k+ as well as like £1.5k a game for prem ones. And with regards to employments, they can be employed by UEFA and FIFA to do international and national events and games, so get extra money for all of that. But for regular jobs, we’ll I’d presume that’s a long as it doesn’t have any controversy around their refereeing ones (so they wouldn’t be able to work for the bookies for example) then as long as they have the time available, then I don’t why they couldn’t do another job?…
But at the same time, seeing how the best refs in England could get like £400k in a season if they did the World Cup, champions league and the FA Cup finals that year.

I’ll completely agree that some refs are dreadful, some are average and some are great (with the latter category being were I’d put myself ) and that some do take it up for the authority, but that’s a minority. But if you think the refs in the prem are bad, then you should see some of the ones in the lower non leagues/Sunday leagues! As I will openly admit that I’ve been embarrassed before when I’ve been AR/4th official to some of the refs I’ve had to work with, whilst there’s very few prem ones that I’d feel anywhere near like that.

But anyway, most people take up officiating for mainly one of 3 reasons.
1 is because they want something to get in some extra cash so are mainly doing it for the money. As no matter what level or age groups you officiate, the match fees are great for what the average pay would be per hour.
2 is due to being someone that we don’t have enough of, so they become qualified to be able to officiate for a mate/family or team, so do it for both them and also to give back to the game.
Whilst 3 is because they love the game, but were rubbish/not good enough at playing it, so decided to take up officiating so that they could still play their part in the beautiful game, without having to be a player. As I myself was an average footballer when I was a kid, yet you’ve gotta be in the top 1% to get a career outta it, not the top 50%. So as I was so obsessed with the game and wanted to still be involved in it all and have naturally had the traits to suite myself being a ref (as anyone who actually knows me like Nick, would agree).

All the other reasons are more or less myths were yeah maybe a few have here and there, but the main 3 reasons they officiate are for the ones listed above

At lower level when players aren’t as fit, quick and you don’t have comms kits or 4th official, yeah that is what you’re told to do. But when you get to the higher leagues and can use comms equipment (so EFL/National league prem) you’re then told to go more centrally as it’s a lot harder to keep up with the likes of Hazard, A.Armstrong or Salah than it is your typical Wessex level player, so to keep up you kinda have to go in straighter lines rather than vertical ones.

But with regards to the quality of officials, maybe if most of them have been so poor, with few being good enough under you’re knowledge views, then maybe it’s not so much the refs being poor but rather then being human and your expectations being too high?
As with all the cheating and what not you get, it’s hardly an easy job, yet many like yourself seem to act like it’s a walk in the park…

Yeah but has Stephens really been that bad? As he was the one that got the attack going for either our 2nd goal or the pen yesterday, and did a decent job making it all tidy at the back

Just gotta wonder though if he can do it in the prem, as like A.Armstrong showed this season, just because you can do it in the championship doesn’t mean you can do it in the prem. Although maybe a season in the championship will have done them both some good and make them better prepared for next season if we beat Leeds

Just one pen missed is hardly the worst. As outside of that he was pretty consistent and fair, and like others have stated, he gave us a very soft penalty which only made up for the one we didn’t get when brooks was fouled

Biggest game of the season
at 13:05 18 May 2024

We practically kept a clean sheet today, as I can’t recall the last time our own fans cheered when an opposing team scored, and other than the one bullet shot McCarthy had to save, the defence was great yesterday and McCarthy had nowhere near as much to deal with as he did at the Hawthorns. As yesterday was a great performance and we deserved the win, but it’s also showed that we can play well and be all over our opponents just like Leeds, but we did it against a fairly decent performing West Brom, not a poor West Brom.

Tbf the ref did mess up on that one, although I do wonder if that influenced his decision to give us the other one, as I’m not so certain around the pen he did give us. Still nice to see a ref dealing with all the dissent for once

Looks as if Adams is on his way out to Wolves
at 13:00 18 May 2024

Yeah well I think you may wanna listen to Pjt50 on this one, as just the same as Broja having less league goals than Adams, I think you’ll find that Fraser just saw out his contract and didn’t do the covid extension like practically everyone else did. But that’s not refusing to play as like I stated before the contract extension wasn’t compulsory
But I’m sure you’ll find a way to edit the debate now so that you are in the right

VAR Yes or No?
at 13:34 17 May 2024

But whether they’re in an offside position or not is factual, which is what the semi-automates VAR’s there for. As it’s been drawing the lines, comparing them, getting the best timings for when the balls been kicked etc… that’s what takes up most of the delays to the VAR checks for offsides.

And ok so you’ve listed some of the things that are taken into account for “resetting” an offside through a defender deliberately playing it or not, but that doesn’t usually take too long for VAR, and even then it’s not often they’ve gotta check that as most offsides have quite simply been a case of where they in an offside position or not. As the main thing that almost all offsides are decided on is the positioning, and that is deliberate

VAR Yes or No?

Well being in an offside position or not is factual, as it’s only the intervening with play part to the law that’s opinionated.
But most of the other issues will simply be sorted with this semi-automated VAR as there will be sensors in the ball to know when it’s been kicked and then cameras that will make sure to get the best angles for offsides. All of which should be done a lot quicker than how it’s getting done today

But that was due to a contract extension back during covid, which wasn’t obligatory for any players to sign with them having the right to turn down, so bit of a difference

Tonight’s other playoff game
at 16:19 16 May 2024

I dunno as I’d also prefer Leeds because we did the double over them and for how they’ve been recently I can see us making it a treble over them.
As even their own fans are saying that they really don’t wanna face us and think they’ll loose the game if they do, which tbh I’d agree with, as it’s more Norwich that worry me, but rather for their all out team than just their striker force. But still tonight’s game should be an interesting one

Tonight’s other playoff game
at 14:48 16 May 2024

Well just the same as us, tonight’s game between Leeds and Norwich is practically a one legged affair with their first leg also ended 0-0. But still who would everyone prefer to play in the playoff final if we do win tomorrow?
As I’d certainly prefer Leeds and do think they will win this game, but of course at the same only a month ago Leeds hadn’t lost a game at home all season, but times have changed since then…

PL clubs to vote on VAR
at 13:20 16 May 2024

Yeah well that I can agree with, although the major difference was that whenever it was toenail level close, people didn’t complain as much. But that’s the issue I guess that it’s what everyone who operates VAR, whether that’s prem, LaLiga, Serie A, fifa or Uefa officials are all told to do.
As unless VAR goes fullstop and we don’t use semi-automated offsides, then that won’t be changing anytime soon irrelevant of whether we have this daylight rule or not
