The Rotherham keeper has had three seasons in the Championship with one in League one in the middle, not sure he is ready for the Premier League, at least not behind our defence.

Likewise Lis has little experience in a top flight League with any pedigree

Who is on the radar for next season, I don't think Alex McCarthy will be the answer, he is a back up keeper at Premier League level and past his best.

So who could we got for, perhaps Aaron Ramsdale as he seemed to enjoy Sunday

His contribution to this club has long been undervalued by the clubs supporters

What to do with our players out on loan?
at 20:14 28 May 2024

Im not having a laugh, im suggesting that a highly rated full back who has been out for 18 months injured could come back next year and fulfill his potential.

I could suggest that you are having a laugh suggesting that a player who was a fringe player in his first season and was hardly outstanding in the worst defence in the Premier League in his second and has played only 351 minutes more than Larios this season in the league despite being fit all season is the answer if we want to avoid a struggle next season.

Erm Caleta Car scored against Grimsby, but I'm not suggesting that he be played up front

Of course it is all about opinions

Before anyone else it should be Lawrie McMenemy, Ted Bates built the foundations of the club, but McMenemy turned it into a top side and won our only major trophy so far he deserves it

Perraud - Not a Premier League quality full back, Larios will be a better option if fit, possibly even Jack.

Lyanco, he will probably go back to Brazil

Caleta Car- I actually think he could play a part

Bella-Kotchap- with experience around him could be good but he is injury prone best to cash in

Tall Paul - Just not a player who fits our style

Lis - Good season in the Turkish second division, not this season maybe next

Alcaraz, he could be an asset next season

Secret to our success today.

To say we would have lost if Bazunu had played is a little bit uncharitable, they only had two shots on target, one very bog standard as a save and the other fairly straight forward.

Let's concentrate on what the positives are going forward not dragging up the past and what ifs

I think we agreed on that one, next season is going to see enforced change as we like Sunday we wont get the ball as much.

League tables can lie in that when we started the season we were not the best side as we were not sure who was staying or going, over the full 46 games Leeds were 3 points better, take out the fist 8 games and it changes drastically.

After we got our poor start out of the way there were 38 games left the points totals were

Leicester 76
Ipswich 75
Leeds 77
Southampton 77

The final table might not lie but it doesnt take into account the full story of the season

Is there another reason we didn't see much of Ross Stewart.

I would doubt that the extra payment would be as low as 5 or 6 games which would have been the most he could have played if he had played in the last two games.

Also if it was 5 then I would imagine they would not have used him in either the game at leeds which was a dead rubber, or the game at West Brom when we were managing the game to a draw

Time to change Transfer Strategy
at 09:56 28 May 2024

What about Adam Armstrong & Kyle Walker Peters, Salisu was not the worse signing and sold for double what we paid.

To bulk up the list by the likes of Small, Awe & Simeu who were not major signings but academy players is a little sneaky.

Also the likes of Joe Aribo & James Bree, Charly Alcaraz & Shea Charles have played parts, as has Sekou Mara despite being cast in the role of pantomime villain.

NB Angus Gunn was 6 seasons ago as was Djenepo, if you throw them in then you include Danny Ings and Che Adams to counter balance

This is a well reasoned start to what will be a big question in the summer, I disagree we were the third best side in the Division, I would say we were the best, but the manager broke up the momentum by wanting to shoehorn Captain jack into the side, nothing against Jack Stephens, but at the time he did not deserve to be in there on merit and indeed to start with never really justified dropping KWP & Bednarek and moving THV to right back to do so.

However you cannot argue with the performances he has put in during the play offs, he has been a good servant to the club and should be applauded for that and his game at Wembley.

I would also add that if we are starting next season with him first choice then something has gone wrong with our transfer strategy.

Hopefully Russell Martin has learned a few lessons in the last month, perhaps he still feels that possession football is the way forward, but truth is yesterday was a pointer to next season, we are not going to be able to get so much possession of the ball next time, like Sunday, we are going to have to adapt not through choice, but because the opposition and the game dictates it, on a good note our squad showed that it can do that.

I wonder what J W P honestly thought at 17.00 yesterday.
at 09:34 28 May 2024

Call me a cynic, but it is the players that hold all the cards these days, I have no criticism of JWP, he was happy to turn out in the first game of the season and he put in a shift, but the reality is that if he had wanted to stay then he would have done so.

I don't blame him, he has given us good service in what was 11 season in the Premier League and at 28 deserved a big money move and the chance to challenge for a trophy.

I would have him back in an instant

5 Things About Wembley
at 21:19 27 May 2024

1. I thought Saints supporters were quiet when compared to the West Brom game, too many watching in silence for long periods

2. It was quite well organised in terms of marshalling the crowds etc, and queueing at the train station, but in and around the ground it was a bit hit and miss and the queues for the toilets both male and female was very long they were too small and not enough of them.

3. The ticket system was terrible, in the end as I couldnt seem to find an empty seat when booking I went them to allocate me a similar seat which turned out to be in the front row right behind the goal, meaning that there are now loads of pics of me doing the roungs celebrating our goal, I moved second half.

4. The trains from Southampton seemed to be poorly organised, although extra trais some were packed solid and others only about 75% full

5. Pre match plan went very well, tube to Kilburn and then the pub, fairly cheap drinks and not to much queueing, left at 1.45 for the tube and at Wembley central forjust after 2pm , 20 mins walk to ground and no queueing to get in
