Pompey have attracted more than 1,000 new season-ticket holders - and are confident they may be able to beat last year's total number.

Chief executive Mark Catlin told The News: ‘The supporters here never fail to amaze me just how loyal and committed they are to the club. We have breached the 5,500 mark already, of which more than 1,000 are brand new season-ticket holders.

‘That is fantastic and bearing in mind this is the last weekend people get paid with the Early Bird we are expecting it to be really busy. So we are urging fans to get their tickets as quickly as they can to reserve seats for what looks like being an exciting season ahead.

‘It is difficult to compare the response to last year because of such a small window, this one has been more stretched out. Speaking to the ticket office manager, however, he is confident we will be in or around the figure we achieved last season.

‘Considering it is our second season in League Two, it is phenomenal and we are still expecting a bumper week or two. Historically, with season tickets, there is a rush in the last few weeks up to the end of the Early Bird.’

Pompey had 10,600 season ticket holders last season.
