Can Pompey keep three-game run (and 92-year run) going?

It was the year of Wembley's famous White Horse final and World War One had ended only five years earlier. 1923 - the last time Exeter won at Fratton Park.

It sounds worse than any of those 'Pompey haven't won at such and such a place since...' lines that get trotted out, but there is a bit more to it than the bare statistic of 92 years having passed since the Decon side last triumphed here.

In fact they've only played at Pompey six times since, and there are plenty of teams have played more often than that without much success.

Nonetheless, it's a 92-year-old unbeaten record that Pompey will be desperate to preserve as they look for a fourth game unbeaten and a fourth straight clean sheet.

Goalless draws at Wycombe and Dagenham, either side of a gritty if unspectacular 1-0 win over Hartlepool at Fratton, have strengthened Pompey's position in the bottom half of the table while doing little to put them in any closer touch with the sides in with a realistic chance of a play-off push.

A second win in eight days, though, would go down nicely against Exeter and defender Joe Devera, whose form has been one of the bright spots in recent games, says there's no reason they can't gain it.

He told The News: ‘We need to make it as hard as possible for any team to come down to Fratton Park and concentrate on what we can do.

‘We will go into the game very confident because we have gone three games unbeaten and it feels like we are making progress. There are a lot of important games coming up and we have a decent platform. Now we have to build on that.’

Boss Andy Awford said the Blues would go into the game in a positive frame of mind.

He told the club website: 'We went there (to Exeter) on the first game of the season and many were disappointed to only come away with a draw.

'A lot of people thought they would be at the other end of the table this season, but it looks a good point now! But if we can beat them then that’s eight points out of a possible 12, which is a healthy return.'
