Fans have carried Pompey for too long, says new boss Wednesday, 13th May 2015 19:13 by pompey-fans.com staff Paul Cook revealed he had some tough thinking to do before accepting the Pompey job. The 48-year-old has arrived at Fratton Park to take the first-team reins but said it wasn't easy leaving Chesterfield. He told Pompey Player on the club's official website: 'It was a very difficult decision. It was a ridiculously difficult decision if truth be told. Chesterfield was so strong in my heart. I'd bought a lot of the players there and we'd come a long way together. 'But in football you have to feel like you can go on but I felt we had come to the end and after talks with Chesterfield it was quite clear that we had.' He said Pompey's potential was a huge factor for him: 'We are getting 15,000 or 17,000 and now we need a football team to be proud of. It is about time a manager put that in place. 'We are where we are and the plan is to move forward, if I can move us forward fast then that is my plan. The supporters have carried this club for too long now and it is about time the players, staff, management and the rest of us did that. 'It is about how quickly we can make these supporters happy and that is the biggest thing now.'
