New faces could be among Pompey men sent to Coventry
Monday, 8th Aug 2016 23:17 by pompey-fans.com staff

Amine Linganzi and Liam O’Brien are the latest additions to Pompey's squad - and both could feature in the League Cup tie at Coventry.

The duo have both been on trial at Fratton in recent weeks and have signed on initial month-long deals.

Linganzi is a central midfielder while goalkeeper O’Brien was at Pompey as a teenager but left in 2010.

Either or both could feature at Coventry with boss Paul Cook promising to make changes for what is a lower-priority competition for the Blues than League Two.

Cook told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'Our objective this year is to do our best to get promoted and that’s our priority — then the FA Cup, then the EFL Cup and then the Trophy.

'We will make changes for the tie, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be doing anything but try to win the game. You look at the month ahead, with journeys up to Morecambe and Crewe, and across to Exeter and Yeovil.

'It’s a heavy workload for players and as the manager, I have to manage that as best as I can. We have to make sure that we keep as many of them fit for our league campaign as possible. So lads will get an opportunity to impress and on a good pitch, it should be an entertaining football match.'
