Everything's changed in a Fratton fortnight
Thursday, 1st Sep 2016 21:25 by pompey-fans.com staff

A couple of wins have changed everything for Pompey, Paul Cook believes.

A fortnight ago, when Colchester visited Fratton, the pressure was on the Blues after a winless first three League Two games of the season.

But Pompey beat the Essex side and chalked up another three points at Exeter last week. Now Cook is eyeing a third league win in a row against Crawley at Fratton on Saturday.

He told the Pompey website: 'It would kick-start our season in a big way. Going into the Colchester game, we were a little bit down and flat, but now we’ve had a couple of wins.

'The reality is that we’re starting to find our feet in terms of patterns of play and we’re working hard on that in training. We all just want to win — and nobody is really that bothered by what formation we play or who scores the goals.

'Our fans just want to come to Fratton Park on a Saturday and see us collect three points. It’s the job of me and the players to make sure that happens. But we need to be a bit cuter and cleverer and prepare for all eventualities because we can’t be sure how sides will line up against us.'

Pompey have bid farewell to Adam Barton - who joined Partick on deadline day - and although Matt Clarke played an hour of Tuesday's defeat at Yeovil, the Blues staff say he is not yet ready to return to league action.

That's likely to mean another start for Tom Davies alongside Christian Burgess in the heart of defence.
