Yeovil 0 Pompey 0: Blues can't see their way to victory

Pompey couldn't quite see their way to three points at Yeovil - in fact they couldn't see much at all.

Fog-bound Huish Park was the venue for the Blues' final game of 2016 and they will have headed home with mixed feelings, knowing they had gone another game unbeaten but had been the better side for most of the contest.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side but played more of a 4-3-3 formation with Kal Naismith joining Michael Smith and Noel Hunt in the forward line.

Naismith, Smith and Matt Clakre all tested Yeovil stopper Artur Krysiak in a first half in which Pompey looked - at least to those who could see - the brighter team.

Otis Khan was the only home player able to draw David Forde into any action while Naismith brought the save of the first half at the other end with a shot that Krysiak palmed away superbly.

The second half was a similar story of Pompey being in control but being unable to make it count. Danny Rose and Carl Baker both found space for efforts at goal.

Kyle Bennett came on and briefly livened up Pompey's attack and Smith was twice denied when he appeared to be in on goal.

Yeovil's best chance came with five minutes to go when Khan unleashed a fine shot that Pompey were relieved to see come back off the angle of post and bar.

Boss Cook told The News afterwards: ‘We looked quite solid, although the game probably petered out. It couldn’t have been a good spectacle for our fans because I don’t think they could see the game!

‘We are a little bit disappointed we couldn’t get a goal in front of them in the second half. ‘We know how much it (promotion) means to them and we are going to do everything we can to deliver come the end of the season.’
