Chinese tourists 07:51 - Jan 31 with 6717 viewsW12_Ranger

Anyone else had the misfortune of encountering this uncivilised race / nationality abroad or even back home?

Presently relaxing on break in Thailand with the missus and I can't believe what bad tourists the Chinese make. Rude , obnoxious and disgusting manners / habits to name a few of their short comings.

Only today have I had a go at 3 sets of them in my hotel. Twice for being soaked by middle aged Chinese men firstly swimming like a man with no arms and another diving into a pool and soaking half a dozen sunbathers. Then to top it off I watched one fat tiddlywink honk a big bit of phlegm up when he had got out of the pool only to gob it back into the pool where kids were playing. The spitting incident isn't isolated this week I've seen it occur on a ferry by a father with 3 kids and on a beach by an elderly Chinese woman in Phi Phi which had dozen holidaymakers stare in amazement. Add to this a race louder than your average Americans abroad and disregard to queuing like the rest of the civilised world it really is enough to make your blood boil.

I thought I was imagining things until I googled it and the results were compelling, I can't believe these tunts make up a sixth of the worlds population and the UK government want to make the VISA application process easier to allow 3 times more to visit our shores.

You get rude tourists from EVERY country. Some people would say the British are some of the rudest.
Why don't you just enjoy your holiday. Other tourists are probably thinking 'whats that bloke doing surfing the net when he should be enjoying himself'

Absolute pigs as you said. Spent 2weeks in China and found it difficult to eat in a restaurant with people sniffing and hawking up every five minutes. No different if you encounter them abroad no manners and ignorant. If you want to experience this in the UK then visit Louis Vuitton in Harrods or Selfridges.

But they're not chinese tourists, you were the tourist.

I do find it intriguing that in every restaurant in China they have huge signs saying no smoking that complies with govt legislation, yet no one takes a damn bit of notice.
As for the honking then spitting, I once got told ' you westerners are more weird, you blow your nose, collect it then put it in your pocket !!'

sweeping generalisation there.

The rudest i encountered on hols were some Jewish, they wouldn't join the lines at the buffets and would generally not queue for anything, i saw many an argument.

I work with them every day here in Macau. I've been here 6 years building casino's and they arrive from the mainland in droves to gamble/launder money. The pavements are covered with dockyard oysters.

Seems to be a sweeping generalisation made by many people in many different countries across the world if you read the many articles on the net.

The world has seen an explosion off Chinese tourists the past 2 years , they are without a doubt the most uncivilised nation I've ever seen. You can tell its part of their culture as they are completely oblivious to it. They are pig ignorant, selfish and lack consideration for others and their surroundings

Russians are pretty bad too, loads of them in Sharm El Sheikh and in Turkey when I've been there. Queing a thing of the passed. Can only imagine what it was like having one rifle between 5 of them back in the day. Can be forgiven though because the women they bring are unf*ckingbelievable, especially the beach wear.

Indeed. Year of the horse. We'll all have long faces from now 'til next year. Personally I'll blame Austin's untimely injury for this affliction.

I used to work with this guy from Malaysia, a decent fellow he was until you saw his eating etiquette. He would scoff his bacon and eggs or whatever like he was a vacuum cleaner, head right into the plate. Then he'd sit back and belch and make those nasty throaty noises, all with a smile on his face as though he had done nothing wrong.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

Notice I said "some Jewish" and then explained an experience.
Didn't say the race as a whole but top marks for your attempt at humour. C-

a lot of chinese we see are new wealth.
Often from rural parts of china who have made money in low grade manufacturung or worked their way up in industy.

I often travel through rural parts of China and I can't beleive the rubbish just dumped everywhere.

The clearing of throats is not seen as rude and spitting is part of a certain age groups culture.

The younger generation have real get up and go and copy what they see of the west and will no doubt become even more fastidious regarding good manners and cleanliness.

I can't stand certain Chinese people who seem to lack any hygiene, manners etc...

Then go out in any UK street on a saturday night and see the most vile degrading behaviour, people throwing, up you dont see this much in China and they dont say innit after every sentence.

Like everywhere there are good and bad, with the Chinese you'll find its a generation thing that will soon dissapear.

Hows tricks Enfield ? My wife has become more civilised and has cut out the farting, belching and spitting at the table !!!
The thing about the rubbish in the countryside is a real eye opener. I remember being in Henan for Chinese New Year in 05 and we travelled to Kaifeng and Shaolin. Towns were fine but we took a country lane just outside Shaolin and came across many villages with no sanitation and no rubbish collections by the looks of it. Everyone smoked like a chimney as well which strangely is seen as a sign of wealth in rural parts of China.

Its the Chinese Las Vegas isn't it mate?
Very different from when I used to work in HK 1993-1996 and we would go to Macau for a weekend away. Then it was reasonably quiet.

Not quite sure why some are surprised at the actions of others, different cultures will always have different standards as to what is acceptable.

We as British have nothing much to crow about, certainly not with our tourists to Spain and other parts of the globe.

Shameful is no where near what I think of the behavior of some our lads & lasses when flying the flag 'Brit Style' but then its no different to what we tolerate in our own town centers, just with a lack of sunshine.

Get our own house in order first, then maybe we can criticise with some justification.

chinese & russian tourists?

I find the hawkers trying to flog you crap every two munutes more infuriating. Always try to find a resort/hotel with a private beach then its only the ruskies you need worry about.
