Have we though? If he didn't put in a transfer request we'd likely have to honour his remaining contract or agree a payout.
Either way, I bet there's some fee involved for him to leave...
He was given a free transfer. I don't think we have to still pay of the last six months otherwise what's the point. He's effectively now released of his contract to QPR and therefore any salary from us.
By waiving any potential transfer fee means we can shift him easier. Win-win for the player, as always these days, as they just get a bigger salary knowing the new club doesn't have to pay a transfer fee.

This video from (presumably) his agent was probably intended to ease our pain...
The fact that the video includes some fairly basic stuff, like tackles in the middle of the pitch and some run of the mill passes, only reinforces what poor value he was.
Someone cleverer than me should "remix" that by adding in a taxi meter showing his earnings building up over the course of the video.
