Would you risk him as first choice keeper Brian or do you think we need someone else?

Transfer rumours 2024
at 22:56 4 May 2024

Really? I'm surprised. He's got four assists in only 16 matches (12 starts). Only Chair and Johansen managed more than that last season in double the amount of games - nine and six respectively. This season it's Chair and Willock in nearly treble the amount of matches - eight and four.

Given the fact we struggle to score goals, I think that's quite impressive for a player that came in not quite match fit, in a relegation threatened team without a pre-season. Dozzell in comparison managed one across the past two seasons. I get what you say about the inconsistency but I think that's partly a fitness issue.

I also get what you say about Hayden, he's been important to us. But I just think it's harder to find a creative player than a defensive midfielder, although I might be wrong there. I think he's important but not busting our budget important, which I fear we would need to do to keep him, whereas Andersen is ours for another season anyway.

Apparently that's down to the agreement of Coventry and they've declined permission, so we need the VPN.

Hilarious intro by David McIntyre for any fellow Dan Bennett fans. Looking forward to watching this tonight. Thanks for posting.

Oh it's him. I'd love to know what all that was about with moving the re-start ball all that way. Baffling. One of those weird decisions that stays with you months later scratching your head.

But at least it's not Stroud and this guy seems generally okay but not fantastic, which seems a bonus compared to some of the horrors we've had in the past.

Yes, we got more and more into the game and dealt with their high press much better as the match went on. We definitely had some chances that we should have put away. This all sounds a lot like the first team!

Wow, that's telling re Norwich. And you'd have thought they have greater strength in depth than we do.

Another thing he needs to turn around at some point is what you've alluded to, the issue of the three matches in a week loss. Three out of the four losses since things really picked up in a win in January against Millwall have been the third match in a three-match week and the other loss was the middle match in a three-match week.

I'm sure if we have a stronger squad it will improve his abiity to rotate players like Paal, Field and Cook who otherwise don't miss a minute: look how much Paal bounced back after missing a game recently.

The luxury of time to work on things should make all the difference. When he came in I was thinking he needs to improve:

Defending at set pieces
Attacking at set pieces
Not losing the ball from our throw-ins
Increasing our shot to goal conversion rate
Being more strategic in playing to the oppositions's strengths and weaknesses
Improving our pressing
Increasing our possession rates
Improving passing accuracy
Overhauling team morale, etc, etc.

And that's just a few things I can think of. I'm sure there are tons of other things that he can improve over the summer with the luxury of time and having already won over the players.

I'd given up hope in January when we'd had that seven match winless run and were seven points from safety and had only scored 21 goals with twenty matches left to play. I just couldn't see us pulling it round.

It was the Millwall match, as Mr Sheen says that started us rallying but I didn't really begin to hope until the WBA game which we played so well in, even though we only drew, that I thought we had a chance. Plus the fans got so behind the team that day that it felt like we could help pull them back up.

League One Play Offs

Start this week.

On a personal note I really don't want either Peterborough or Barnsley to go up. It seems like we always play badly against them. That three match run when we lost to Posh in the cup as well as the league and I went to the cup and the home game still haunts me.

The Ismael Barnsley side penning us in for what seemed like hours also gives me nightmares. Come on Oxford (v Posth) and Bolton (v Barnsley).

Awful after one goal. Slightly hopeful after two goals. Felt much more confident when the third went in. Relaxed after the fourth goal.

I think Reggie has a groin issue (maybe needs an op over the summer?) so I doubt they'll risk him now we're safe.

I'm quite surprised he hasn't been out on loan more. Playing development football doesn't really toughen you up enough for the physicality of the Championship.

Paul Smyth obviously learnt a lot in his time in the lower leagues as he's someone who used to get pushed off the ball previously and he's more resilient nowadays.

Pleased for him.

He had a great first season with us (he was supporters' and players' player of the season here too) but for whatever reason it ended up not working out here for him. It was time to move on.

I liked him though; he always seemed to put a lot of effort in and quite often showed a lot of skill. But playing here it was like he had the golfer's yips. I thought he'd be fine once he re-set at a different club.

I think Sam Field would give it to Sam Field (jokingly).

When he was asked at the end of the Sky interview to hand the MoM award to Chair, he said 'no chance'. Lol.
