PROMOTED with 2 runs required from 1 delivery 11:47 - Feb 2 with 19581 viewsRAFCBLUE

Been looking at the 2009-10 season - there are lots of similarities in the League makeup after 28/29 games, a tight bunch of eight clubs all playing for three places but with a couple (Chesterfield, Scunthorpe) one game better than the rest.

To beat our best ever L2 season (3rd) we need from the last 18 games:

36 points: (12 wins, 11 wins 3 draws, 10 wins, 6 draws, 9 wins 9 draws)
39 goals:

Unlikely we will be able to be the goals against record, only 14 more from now which shows you the quality of Craig Dawson in the promotion season.

The run in starts here - could be very very close.

36 points from here is a big ask but is what is required as " promotion form"

36 + our 47 would probably put us in the top 3.

A big ask.. but certainly something to be mindful of and aim for.

Starts Saturday at Wimbledon.

I 100% think this squad has enough about it to secure 30 more points.

9 wins and 3 draws leaves room for 4 x defeats.

a big ask but champions rise to the challenge of tough asks.

Its going to be an exciting finale to the season for sure.

Not sure how I want it to pan out really, when we went top after beating Northampton we then lost 3 of the next 5. Whether that was due to pressure or just one of those things I don't know. Obviously if Chesterfield and Scunthorpe keep winning they will be hard to pass so it might just be 3rd spot we are playing for. One thing in out favour is we have played both teams twice already. Beating Burton tonight would be a massive boost with neither of the pacesetters playing. A big night.

Yep

29 from 15.

a very tough ask ( Auto promotion form )

I was thinking that we also probably only need 15 from 15 now for the play offs if we dont quite make the top 3.

Defensive form is key. The longer we keep those 12 goals out the better change we will have - what price a clean sheet on Saturday?

Points total for 3rd placed teams
2012-13 78 (77)
2011-12 84 (84)
2010-11 80 (80)
2009-10 82 (74)
2008-09 78 (78)
2007-08 88 (82)
2006-07 85 (85)
2005-06 81 (79)
2004-05 80 (79)
2003-04 81 (81)
2002-03 84 (75)
2001-02 79 (79)
2000-01 80 (78)
1999-00 82 (80)

The figure in brackets is 1 pt more than the team in 4th place got that year with the exception of when teams in 3rd and 4th achieved the same number of points.

Based on that, the average number of points needed for 3rd place is 81.5pts, and the average to finish above 4th place is 79.4pts.

Now is the time to really start going into games all guns blazing. Whoever puts a run together now (we are in the middle of one) will probably go straight up and avoid the play offs.

The teams who wait for things to happen (dont seize the initiative) will miss out. Its the nervy stage of the season and the best way to combat nerves is to get on the front foot.

We are a better team when playing at a high tempo so lets not over think the tactics, get at the opposition and dont die wondering. The over achieving comments are a weakness, this squad of players are good enough to go straight up and they know it. No fear!!

Damn right about the "over-achieving" comments being a sign of weakness.

They made sense during his first spell in charge, now they're just embarrassing. More - they reek of the very "victim" type of mentality that he says he will never suffer from.

Don't want to hear it again - but no doubt we will. I'm prepared (very happy, in fact) to put up with such foibles providing we're putting our best game forward in each and every one of these "magical" remaining games. When we employ tactics more out of fear of the opposition, it grates like hell.

Thanks for the kind words, nobody at the club should have any fear of failure this season.

Hilly has assembled a fantastic squad at very short notice, we had a great cup run and boosted the finances and have been battling away at the right end of the table for most of the season, the players and management team have done brilliantly.

If we did happen to miss out at the end of the season everybody can hold their head up high, so what have we got to lose ?

The overachieving comments are whimpy and give the players and management a excuse to fail, its the wrong time of the season to be talking like that.

Well my pre-match rally cry wouldn't involve worrying about the opposition that's for sure, let them worry about us. Get at them from the off and impose our game on them, we didn't do that last night and we let them dictate the play.
